ICS makes a nice M4 variant if you are wanting to keep it under 400 fps (most people do). The reason it is superior in my opinion to most is the "split-gearbox" design. VERY EASY to work on and mod. It also has a lot of metal and feels great in the hands. Very Happy

Its probably a good idea to play a little while with your L96 first just to get a feel for it... then once you get an AEG you will feel invincible. Very Happy

another nice feature of the ICS series is you can have a Dm style upper receiver with a higher strength spring, then switch to a new upper receiver with a whole new front barrel set with a lower strength spring in about a minute. and for the M4, a whole new upper with some upgraded parts is only about $80 so its cheap(compared to getting a whole new $250-$300 mechbox)

ICS has its faults though. like it isnt compatible with many external body kits, you usually have to do some heavy dremelling to either the gun or the kit. it has had some Hop-Up issues and unless modified it cant take other hop-ups. if has some compression problems so i would recomend you get a piston and a new piston head off the bat. i dont think you can use any other metal bodies with the ICS series(without heavy modds)so your stuck with the lion crest thingy, which after awile can get old.

good luck with that though, i would deff take any AEG that you get to a airsmith instead of doing the upgrades yourself. better safe than sorry.
however as long as you dont take apart you trigger assembly you should be fine doing work on your L96.

Yeah, some people arent comfortable with opening up there mechbox... I need to do a tutorial on how to do it (with a ton of pics). Very Happy Once you do it a few times, it really isnt a big deal. I think people get this idea in their head that it is this overly complicated machine and it really isnt. There are just a few small things to remember and the biggest factor that comes into play is patience. Honestly, the ICS M4 split gearbox is by far the easiest gearbox I have worked on. Just the fact that you dont have to mess with the lower half if you need to change something in the upper half (or vise versa) really simplifies things and can save you all kinds of time.

HOWEVER...
While a lot of people do run heavy springs in their ICS M4's, I wouldnt recommend going over 400 fps due to the gearbox design... while it is fantastic and easy to work on, it also isnt a solid piece of metal from top to bottom, because of this there is a lack of support compared to other designs and it is subject to failure when pushing heavy springs (M130+). It will be perfect for an M120 or less and should last quite a while.

Plus, you could join the elite group of ICS owners like myself... Very Happy

Expect a review soon... it is my new "sidearm". Twisted Evil

I have been impressed by it so far and look forward to using it. A lot of nice features that really stand out compared to some replica's AND yes, it did take the place of the MP5k idea I was thinking about. I decided to go with it because I know ICS makes nice replica's and this thing is VERY nice. A little heavier than a mainly ABS MP5k, but it is about the same length and it has a great aftermarket for just about any part you can imagine. Very Happy
