| Hey guys. Recently, there have been some coyote problems in my neighborhood, and the past few weeks, there have been coyotes in my woods, yard, and my neighbors yards. Keep in mind that every night I must take out my 2 dogs to play. Even though my dogs are generally big, the male is 80-ish pounds and the female 40-ish pounds, I still don't feel comfortable going outside with them without something to repel the coyotes. I have brought my gas pistol out with me the past few nights, and I feel much more comfortable, and that I can keep the coyotes away without hurting them, or at least the noise will scare them. I know I'm kinda a wimp on this subject, but I'm not in a mood to see my dogs get eaten outside, because it has happened many times in my area. So, are airsoft guns an ethical solution, or precaution in my case, so my dogs aren't harmed? Thanks -ARD | |

| I would kill the coyote too as well, but unfortunately the city of sussex in wisconsin doesn't allow firearms to be discharged, even if situations like this. Still, do you think that having a nice mag lite flashlight and that little pistol to keep them away is good enough? | |

| If you are worried enough about this to drop some money, grab a HPA powered air rifle. Get enough time on it to know what is safe and what is not. This is actually a really common practice here in Columbus, and in my old town of Springfield IL. The only thing you need to be cautious about is the FPS, as in Ohio anything above 750FPS needs to be registered as a firearm. Just check the local laws to make sure its within the law. Heres a great site for more info: http://www.airguns.net/index.phpGood luck, and be safe. sticks | |

| Yes, thanks sticks for the information. I already have an airgun, it's probably pretty familiar, the 760 pumpmaster. I'm sure it is probably familiar with you. I have been through hunter safety, and my uncle is a police officer, so I pretty much know safety, but I'm still very cautious about airguns and whatever else, because you can never know when something will go wrong though. Thanks for the input though, guys. If anyone has more thoughts, keep em comin'. Thanks. | |

| My Brother is the big trapper of the family and he has Cotye traps and he uses a .22 to blow them away or a good smash in the nose with the butt of his hatchet does the trick. | |

| Back to basics:
I would recommend your standard Spear or Hatchet or better yet, your friendly neighborhood Bow and Arrow.

| there more afraid of you than you are of them so they should leave you alone........ also they don't like you or your dogs sent so if you have and sort of hair clippings just sprinkle them around the edge of your yard. | |

| well some of my friends, their dad,my dad and me hunt them because i could go shoot a 20mm anti tank rifle in my back yard and no one would care as longs as i didn't kill any one or hurt anything. I use my dad's Bushmaster(223) with my leapers 3-9X50 scope and we shoot a few between us. And another reason we do this is because they have messed with my friends horses (bit one in the leg) and every few years or so they find mountain lion tracks on their land and those thinks are a lot more nasty then cyotes. so in you urban case i would go with the high power BB gun i would think Gamo with lead pellets (because they have a higher FPS if you use the special stainless steel ones) | |

| If you carry a baseball bat you won't get as many funny looks from the neighbors as you will with a bow and arrow. . . or a spear. That will work. | |

| im a hippie, i don't kill animals... not even spiders, i take all the poisones ones down the street though lol. i only hunt humans, KKoerber is my most dangerous game lol
so thats cool you found a way to not just kill them, although if in self defence killing them may be the only choice to truly get rid of the problem.. i shouldent say flat out i don't kill animals. i guess its nessesary when ur being directly threatened

| Wow, I am so arachnophobic that I can't even get close to a spider. Anyway, I say if you eliminate the threat in front of you, you'll never leave an enemy behind to stab you in the back. | |
