Whats the difference between an AK 47 and an AK 74?

I know, newb question. Probably should of put it in the ask a pro but whatever.

The ak 74 is a short ak 47 which takes a smaller caliber bullet (I think) and was designed for the urban warfare of the new ages.

Simple. the AK74 was developed as an improvement on the '47. They AK47 was made in 1947, and the '74 in 1974.

I prefer the AK-74 just because I don't like the wood look of the AK-47. I like the black tacticle look of the AK-47. The difference is that the AK-74u which is the smaller version of the AK-47 which is considered to be an SMG but in reality its still a assualt rifle. The AK-74 also has a different flash hider than the AK-47 to reduce muzzle flash and recoil. It still shoots the 7.62mm round. Also I think the stock on the AK-74 is foldable instead of the solid stock.

Well in airsoft not much difference, Its mostly gonna be aesthetic. In the real world however, the '74 fires a 5.45 x 39 mm round, making it more accurate and easier to control than the '47, but also with less stopping power than the bigger 7.62 '47 round.

In airsoft there is no internal differences, but RS they are almost two opposite guns!

AK 47- 7.62, first AK, made in 1947, pentagon muzzle cap(not a flash hider), kicks like a mule.

AK74- 5.45 round, made in 74', flash hider/horizontal compensator, improved AKM design, new eargo grips and furniture(original was wood, new AK74's use a synthetic stock), little recoil, recoil compared to low grain .223 round.

Yeah well think of it like this . The M16 was the United States solution to the need for a new Assault Rifle . Well since then we have kept on and kept on adding and modifying the M16 until we have guns like the AR 15 and the M4 . Both are completely different guns but they are alike in looks and design . The same goes for the Ak 47 and the AK 74 . We got the design right so why keep on making new ones just to complicate things more . Sure it would be more fun but why do it . Well just add on to the designs that we have already got and they work .

in real life the difference is that an ak 47 has a 7.62 short round where as the ak 74 has th nato 5.56 round also the 74 is bigger in size and has a larger silervy looking muzzle end on it with the added bonus of better accuracy but with less power.

Really, theres no comparison between the two.
The 74 was created many years later, so it will naturally be "better" due to a long trial and error process following the AK47.

Yeah the 74 uses a strange commie round. The AK-101 though uses a 5.56 round and looks exactly like the modern day AK-74s.

I gotta say though i like the 74 over the 47, i'm a real sucker for the flash hider on the 74.

really? i prefer the ak 47 way more but thats probs cuase i paid more attention to it than any others i also love the Dragunov svd though mine is green... same as my ak

Out of all the Kalashnikov family, I like the PKM machine gun. It just excites my inner Squad Support Gunner, haha

i have to go with the SVD with the proper scope it just look so nasty and up to the job not to mention its very old and reliable so you can count on it lol
