| It's not free but it's $14.99 and a straight download to your PC. Check out Red Orchestra, great WWII shooter and while the graphics aren't great the game is very high on realism. If anything if you like online multiplayer gaming keep an eye out for it on steampowered.com, sometimes they have it on sale for cheap. They also have a ton of free demos there you check out and mess around with. | |

| Are we talking just first person shooter? or rts/tbs?
'Cause I know a few turn based tactics games (two of them are very good) and am a strategy game freak, but it looks like all that's listed here is first person shooters. If you're interested in hearing them, let me know.
Roblox has an engine that adapts nicely to FPS style games, if you don't mind fighting as a Lego person that is. All "game rooms" are built by fans and hosted on roblox servers, you just need to find a shooter room and scroll your view in to first person mode, (or you could leave it at the default third person mode if you want to).
If you don't mind playing Old games, I hear The Marathon collection from Bungie (the creators of HALO) has gone open source, I got my copies from a friend, it's graphics are old, but the game-play is still great. | |

| Alrighty then. The first alas is no longer free, but was when I got it. It's Called X-com: UFO: Enemy Unknown. (better known as X-com 1) The rights to it were bought by steam, it's an old game, but that didn't stop IGN from naming it the #1 PC Game of All Time. fortunately, steam sells it cheap, and the fact that it's remotely hosted should mean that it will work alright on newer computers. It has trouble on some of mine. Of course, if you're a RTT fanatic, you already knew all that, so let me introduce you to my second offering: GunroxGunrox is a free MMO Turn Based tactics game (though spending money on it does have 1 in game advantage). what this means is you get the joys of intelligent allies, along with all their faults, you also get opponents with the same problems that you have. you may at times have to deal with the language barrier, since brazil is the country where the game has really taken off. When you sit down to play, be prepared to stay awhile, since leaving your allies mid fight is a good way to become a less popular ally, and to earn the dreaded "deserter" rank. Of course, if you can make friends, you won't have many of the problems associated with trusting your back to some random guy, which is why getting together in groups can be a good idea. On Gunrox I'm listed as DarthDLA. I don't get on often (I've got college classes starting soon, and I spent the last summer staffing at a boy scout camp), but if other people I thought I could trust were interested in playing with me, I might be convinced to make time for a game or two. which brings me to my next point: If you sign up, sign up using this link: http://www.gunrox.com/?ref=DarthDLAIt's a simple reference system. there is a small, in game cash system. if you sign up, I'll get a small bit of cash every time you level-up, any lining of my pockets would be appreciated. (it costs you nothing) Finally, be aware that the game allows multiple accounts, and therefore not all players of your level are of equal experience. if a guy has 51 wins and 2 losses, he's probably better at the game than you are. In fact, I'm thinking of setting up a second account myself. | |
