It´s both, depending on which one and the branch of service,
The M79 was known as the Thumper by pretty much everybody, later the M203, because of its metalic `` Clang ´´ when shooting got nicknamed the blooper, I also think the Blooper got a bit of the nickname because of shooter mistakes, when using the 203 in a direct fire role, gunners have the tendancy to rest the M16 barrel on an object, wall, tree branch, window sill, of course the 203 is now behind a fixed object, so when fired guess where the round goes ?
BAM !! into the wall, and bloop lands at your feet ! LOL
Alot of gunners can be thankful for the 9-12 verticle rotations it takes to arm the warhead.
Just my thoughts.
