| Ok so i feel like talking real guns now. So who here likes shooting the real thing whether it be at targets or hunting or just likes to talk about real guns? I love guns, i own two rifles now and will probably be getting a Mosin-Nagant and some kind of shot gun later this year and a handgun once i turn 21 in April. Shooting targets up is about the only shooting i do since i'm to lazy to hunt although i'm not against it . My main gun interests are probably older military rifles from like late 19th mid 20th centuries with heavy interest towards WWII guns, namely German origin. Newer rifles, i like our M4s (hate M16s) and i love pretty much everything from H&K. Handgun wise my overall favorite is the FN Five-Seven although for now i'll probably have to settle for getting a Glock or a XD chambered in a .40 or .45 cal. | |

| I like the Glocks, but I don't like the way the lower is formed. If you compare a Glock lower and a 1911 lower, you'll notice the Glock is not necessarily a "point-and-shoot" gun, you need to lower your wrist a little bit to aim it straight. It's kind of difficult to explain | |

Yeah they are different. I'm looking for something to carry so getting something small/compact is ideal for me. Not many other handguns have caught my eye for what i want other then the Glock and Springfield Arms XD line, Sig, 1911, and Beretta style guns are out of the question, great guns but again not my style for a carry. I also want a big round like a .40 S&W, .45 ACP, or a .45 GAP and not a wimpy 9mm.

Saw them at Turner's. | |

| Well my airsoft GBB is a 1911 compact and i like the feel and size of it. But, there's just something about the look and feel of them that i don't like for a personal carry gun. The blocky yet compact look of Glocks and XDs look nicer to me and i like how the striker isn't visible as it is on the 1911. | |

| I realy don't get were you Americans get that a 9mm is wimpy...I realy don't....in the army maybe becouse they can't use hollow points so it goes through and through but as a civilian you can use hollow points...a hollow point will rip a guy to bits if you shoot them with it plus you can carry more rounds with less recoil.I would much rather have a accurate weapon in a self defense situation were your probly gonna be scared as "Watch your language" with adren pumping | |

| 9mm HPs are nice but i think they still lack the power and intimidation of something like a .45 ACP round. Plus they won't do jack against body armor which some bad guys do like to use. .45 on the other hand may or may not penetrate but the punch it'd deliver is almost as good. HPs can inflict some major damage but a single .45 ACP has some awesome knock down power behind it. With that power you shouldn't need the more rounds a 9mm would give you. Plus yeah i guess it is something to do with being an American, we do like our big sticks. | |

| ehfor concealed weapon carry .45 would just not work imo...and for home defense I would much rathere use a short barrel shotgun, as you say it has massive knock down power and theres no risk of hitting family in the next room or the neightbor down the street if I miss. | |

| @ilft99 if you want something that will go through body armor, the Five-Seven would be the way to go. Only problem is that it's not exactly a compact weapon. As far as compact handguns go, I'd have to say Glock 19 chambered in .40 S&W, maybe even a Glock 26 in a .40 S&W. I don't much like the size of the Glock 26, though, it's too small in my opinion. Have you looked at the Sig P226 SAS? My cousin has one, and it is an excellent, fairly compact handgun. | |

| I have 3 family "collectors" guns, but they don't really count. During RS shoots I usually mooch off my friends firearms(i pay for my own ammo though). The last few times we went to the ROTC/campus police range, we know the president of the OSU pistol club so we get to stay and shot at the LE range.
Shoot mix of .22 target pistols till 9-ish, after this the real fun and games starts. -Remington 870 -full sized HK USP -1911's -Glock 17 and 19 -ruger 10/22(fun for drills) -Colt .45 SA(A? I forget...) -PS90(P90 civi version)
That was just at the last shoot, theres allot more but I didn't have the chance to shoot them. I also didn't get to shoot the PS90, but it was worth the honorable mention. Pending what happens in the spring with sports/missions trips I might grab a civilian AIMS or WASR10.

No recoil and comfort are the two reasons I love mine. And very fun to just plink at the range with...very cheap ammo. Now my second favorite is my Romanian AK 47. Full rose wood stock and hand guard. With a heavier receiver and barrel assembly than the traditional stamped AK's. She makes me happy.

If i could afford a Five-Seven i'd get one, friend of mine has one and it's like a slice of heaven, but sadly i won't have $800-$1000 to drop on a gun. I like Sigs but they're just not quite my cup of tea at the moment. The more and more i look at them i'm really liking the XD 45 and the XD 45 compact in either a 4 or 5 inch barrel. Both guns come with two mags right off and the compacts standard mag is capable of holding 10 .45 ACP rounds and the other it comes with holds 13. It's frustrating having to wait a few months until i can actually go looking at these guns. There's a few places around me that carry several Glock models as well as the XDs so as soon as i can i'll go and check them all out. Already have something for home invasions so i'm set there. 10/22s are so much fun to shoot and there's so much you can do to them custom wise.

| The XD 45 isn't bad looking, really. Have you looked into the HK USP Compact though? They run about $800 at my local gun shop | |

| Why! Why! I forgot all about the HK USP, now i gotta think more. But really now i don't think my meager income could afford anything more the $500 range and that's pushing it. | |

| You should grab a retired LE glock. We can pick them up for about the price of an XD over here($400 ish). My brother is going to pick one up when he moves out.

| LE Glock? edit: Oh, Law Enforcement! Okay, I got it @ilft99 My gun shop tends to inflate prices dramatically since they are one of the best in the area, so I wouldn't be surprised if you found one cheaper. | |

It's the same way here although sometimes you can find good deals. I'll most likely look and drool at gun shops but buy from a gun show or something.

Yea right. You first pay a 15-25$ admission to save maybe %5 on ammo or the newest and greatest 9mm. I found it is much easier to find good buys on the interwebz. For starters Gunbroker.com.
