Second Life, Rigs of Rods, etc...

Anyone on here play these sims?

I've been doing SL since it started (and I make some good $$$ on it) and I'm going to download RoR when I get home.

I just started playing SL, but whats Rigs of Rods?

what is the point of SL???

Second Life is much like a second life, you can own land, buy objects, make things, communicate, theres all sorts of different worlds, and all of this is with money that is acutally worth money in Real life, of corse you don't need money, but you do to be able to buy stuff...

SL is for people who have a pathetic arse life who need make themselves feel better sbout themselves by becoming "pro" in a game?*

But then calling it a game....is a insult to all games..it's so..iono..pointless...

i herd about a guy who bought like a whole dam condo complex on that game with Real money. like 100k. he then rented out these condos to other people for real money and made like 150k, real money.......

Like i said...you have to be pretty pathetic to do that....bad enough to spend money on monthly fees for gaming...when you pay real money like that tho..wow.

yea but he got 1.5 times the money he spent in the first place......the closest i come to this is paying for XBL.......would i ever spend 100k of USD in a video game? He11 no.

Naw I just love design...and Second Life really is a great platform for 3D design and animation. And it doesnt cost $$$...

Yeah, I just do it when i get bored, I like to fly planes, and Im hoping to be able to make stuff soon...

See theres nothing wrong with that..but there are many who play SL becouse thier life suck so much they feel they have to improve it on a sim...get out and do somthing with YOUR life..it will be alot more rewarding then sitting behind a game. Agian this is just my opinion gained form experiance..some of the MMO's I played had many who also played SL..most were useless potheads.

Realy? Instead of going for personal attacks try telling me why im wrong, perhaps I just had a bad experiance with players of SL and generalized..maybe not maybe it is as I say. That generalization is perfectly true.

The majority of people on SL are either:
1) Potheads.
2) People who litterally see it as a "second life" because their own life sucks.
3) "Fanboys" like those who play World of Warcraft.

Then there are the select few who use Second Life as a staging area for:
1) Education. Many colleges have virtual "campuses" in the SL world. Places for their students to practice design, architecture, etc...
2) Entrepreneurs. People who just have a passion for creating new things.
3) Businessmen. There is a thriving virtual economy in Second Life and if you work at it, you can make real capital $$$. There are people make a living off SL.

I happen to belong to the latter of the two.
Because SL really has no boundaries...there are roleplayer, combat, social communities...basically creating "games" within a "game".

I say "game" because SL really isn't...I'd say its more of a social experiment than anything.



Rigs of Rods is a transport simulator. Vehicles are made from the iconic rod-webs often found in 3D game design (hence the name...).
It's free and somewhat interesting. Various vehicles, no real goal, and lots of cargo to move around.
Just something I found and thought was worth sharing and playing every once in a while.

Yeah I didnt know about the design aspect of the game..sounds pretty cool. i never did get into computer design and such tho..I love pen paper and all the tools that come with it. Iono just somthing about seeing somthing I made on paper turn into the thing.

Ya definitely. Pencil on paper is always the best.

But the great thing about Second Life is that you can actually add script to your object to make them "work".
Vehicles, aircraft, boats, clothing, etc...all can be tested by the game's engine.
In-game physics are great and overall the program is a great tool for prototyping.

Yeah im in the process of designing my mews/weathering area for getting my falconry permit..Will be so much fun to see the designs come to life

Falconry? I've honestly never met anyone into that That'd be cool.

yeah ive been interested since..i think i was 8....never realy seriously pursued it but now..well we will see. main issue in my way is cost..4k+ to build minumum housing and equip. then have to take one of the hardest tests ever made..then find a sponser..and then i can finaly trap my first red tail
