| Hey there, forum. I need your help once again. I have been thinking about investing in a good radio lately, but I need some help. I want something that will go with my US Marine loadout that I can wear comfortably under a MICH 2000. I also want to be able to hear outside noise, as well. The thing is, I don't know much about radios, airsoft-wise. I'll be using it in a field environment this April. I don't want anything fancy just yet. I honestly don't need to be picking up Kirtland AFB radio comms, haha, so just tell me a short range line-of-sight sort of radio. Thanks, guys | |

| I picked up some Midland MTX 300's from a sporting goods store. The package came with 2 radios, 2 in ear boom mic's, rechargeable battery pack and a charging dock for both radio's. I believe they are 3 watt radios(high power). I can get about a mile through thick almost jungle hills at the local field. Anything beyond that is a no go, however this is true for any radio under 5 watts that I have seen. This is a copy of one of the mic's that force recon uses(as well as many other SOF units). http://www.airsoftsmith.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=31_102&products_id=1333I know they are out of stock, but if you google that you should get allot of hits. sticks | |

| Is that price pretty much par for the course? I was thinking around $50, if you have any I could use. My loadout is for 3rd Battalion, 1st MarReg, if that helps. I'd imagine they'd use what the rest of the Corps uses though | |

| Well, I had looked at those, but I didn't know what (BM) and (SEL) meant. Also, what does having one or two pins do? | |

| I guess it's just more versatility so you don't have to buy a new radio. So if your Motorola had one pin ports then you would be able to use that instead of getting a different radio and the two pin.... I think... | |

| Some radio's have a single pin port, and others have a double pin port. My radio has a double pin port, most motorola's have a single pin port.

| Which would you recommend getting, sticks? Also, if your radio is a two-pin, you wouldn't have any problems picking up somebody with a one-pin, right? | |

One pin. It allows for a wider range of "extras". If it were HAM or a higher end radio setup, I'd go with 2 pin. And no, transmission and recieving are not hampered by non-matching pin types...as long as the radios are open to the same channels.

| Okay, thanks, Durkee. I didn't think there would be any difficulties between devices with different pins, but I wasn't sure. So what about this headset? I still don't know what SEL and BM mean, but... | |

I'm actually not 100% sure what they mean...but it has something to do with the electronics inside the headset. From what I see, neither is better (or very different). Make sure you find a good spot on your rig/carrier/etc to place the PTT console.

| Where would you recommend placing it? It'll be on my IBA. (I know that's kind of a weird question, but bear with me). | |

| PTT buttons should be as close to your non firing hand shoulder as possible. This way its easy to find and reach when you need to talk. The reason its not on the firing hand side is because you should never take your finger away from the trigger area.

As far up on your chest as possible. If there are open MOLLE loops or anything...throw it on. ITs a matter of personal preferance though... Some people wire it to the stock of their rifle...which is weird...but it works for if you're in prone alot.

| Here's the thing: I fire ambidextrously with both my primary and my secondary, so should I put it in the center? | |

| A good squad radio is the Midland G7 or G8, Multi Channel, Hi and Low Freg, Hi low Power with a range of up to and better than ( depending on the terrain ) 15KM. All kinds of extras, Roaming, Vibration, Channel Lock or Lock out and so on. A good headset and Throat mike to go with it is the AE 38 S2 configuration, depending on how you set up, Trigger Ptt, Free Hand, Wrist, you have fast comms with no hassel. The Earpiece and Throat Mike are awsome, transmits and recieves a Whisper crystal clear. http://www.mwf-service.com/shop/popup_image.php?pID=2867 | |

| A throat mic that works? BS! jk Slob, I might have to pick one of those up... Slob are you talking about one of their CB transmitters? I always wondered how they would do for airsoft. Jarhead, what hand do you shoot with for comp shooting? Thats your primary shooting hand/arm. If you are consistently shouldering the rifle on your other side for say CQB, then I would move the PTT closer to the middle of the chest, but only enough to allow the rifle to shoulder correctly. sticks | |

| Hey, thanks for the input slob! I'm going to search around a bit and see what I can find on that throat mic.
@sticks For rifle comps I shoot right handed, but in CQB I fire left-handed a lot. So maybe right about where my heart is?
