hey i am new to airsoft and i have a few questions. first off is that i already own a famas the clear version and i want to use it as a backup. is it a good gun?? and next of is that i have found a gun on hobbytron.com. it is a m4 3181 aeg. it is cheap within my budget but i was wondering if it is a good noob gun. i would use the two rifles in a war the aeg untill it runs out of batterie or ammunition then the famas. if anyone has and sugjustions please comment.
thanks

Hello, on others and my behalf welcome to the forums!!! As some advice, just to keep your head from gettin bitten off, I would delete this thread and post in the "which gun" forum.

Anyways, there is a problem. I would not buy another "n00b" gun since it is that you have come to like airsoft. I would buy within a budget of $100 - $200. And another peice of advice, Hobbytron is a big NO!!! I would never buy from them again in fact. Try www.airsplat.com, www.airsoftatlanta.com, www.airsoftextreme.com, and www.redwolfairsoft.com.

Anyways good luck shopping, I know it is a large budget, but trust me your going to want a gun that last you and has more *umph*
My reccomendation if money is tight, is to save about 70%, if your a kid, of your weekly allowance that way you still have spending money. If not, I would try saving money by not driving to work, carpooling. That way your gas money can go straight to your airsoft money.

While I am here to help, I came accross this review while looking up That particular gun.
http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=37824
This review was written by a man who purchased that exact gun from hobbytron.
Hmm....I just took a look at the gun and I do not know what to say. I mean, It looks fine for a beginner. If you are doing the casual backyard battles with your friends, this is most likely the way to go. I am just not sure on how durable it will be or how reliable it will be. And to tell you the truth I'm not sure that it would last that long......I would broaden your price range a bit. Get a gun that is a little more pricey, trust me it is worth it. And try a website like www.Kapowwe.com or www.Airsoftsmith.com. I'm not saying DON'T buy it, however I would research it a little more first. I will tell you that ordering from Hobbytron is a big No-No. Just wait until Sticks, Admin, Lone Wolf, or Roamer reply to this thread, they should be able to help you more than I can. tongue

Hope this atleast helped you a little bit!
Oh, and WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!

Nice find M14.

But I strongly would not reccomend this gun for reasons i stated above. Its just not worth the money to buy a LPEG (low priced electric gun).

Please if you plan on playing airsoft longer i would put aside hobbytron and LPEG's completely.

Thanks for your quick answers ya i don't get allowance i only get money for christmas or for my birthday so money is really tight. i have a friend that had a version of this gun but it broke within a month but what you have to understand that even if it is a classic army or a tokyo marui ( hope i spelt them right) he will break it fast. but my famas i have had for over a year and it doesent have a scratch so i think i take care of my guns. and it is only for like back yard airsoft so it can't have like 400 fps lol. but thanks again for the responces. and i will look at that review you gave to me.

Hmmm....thats not much. You can look around the sites that Lone Wolf and M14 said, as they are good sites. I don't know if you'll find what you want for that much. Are you just after a rifle? If not, you could probably pick up a good gas pistol for that price. Otherwise i would advise saving it untill you get a bit more and look at the Echo 1 guns. They are pretty good and reliable. Just my thoughts.

Welcome to the forum killyouno5!

I understand your frustration with the lack of money - most of us have been in your shoes before. $100 isn't a bad start though. If you could make $20-30 more you'd be in even better shape, but we'll work with what we have. First off, people have been pleased with Hobbytron, so I won't bash them too much. But please, don't purchase through them. Their descriptions of guns are misleading, they overprice a lot of their rifles, they carry a ton of junk, and you most likely won't be happy with your purchase.

If you absolutely have to stay under $100, then you will definitely be limited. But not so much that you'll have to buy a cheap, clear plastic gun. If you want to stick only to backyard airsofting (which is kind of looked down upon anymore due to the problems it can cause) with one or two friends w/cheap replicas, then maybe a clear plastic gun will work fine for you. In that case I doubt a nice rifle and this forum are meant for you. However, if you want something nice that'll last you a while, check out some of these. Any of them will do much better than the guns you're looking at.

Some of your better options:
Galaxy mp5
http://www.airsplat.com/Items/ERM-GX-MP5K-G5K.htm
JG mp5
http://www.airsoft51.com/gb-mp5-sd6-airsoft-aeg-rifle-ech.html
CYMA Ak47 (out of stock at AirsoftGI)
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=1484
JG G36C ($120 - but it'd be all you need!!)
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=2109

If you're serious about airsoft and you've been in it long enough to know you'll be sticking with it for a while, do not rush into buying a cheap gun. You'll only be disappointed down the road when the junk gun breaks on you, doesn't perform like your opponents' do, and you get laughed out of events where people are carrying nice replicas around and you have a cheap clear plastic gun. Trust me... save up the money and buy a nice one.

These guns that admin mentioned above do not exceed 400 FPS... they range anywhere from 300 - 360 FPS. and you can buy downgrades if your so worried about it. Or if your lazy save up and buy a TM, by japanese law they can only make their top fps 280. Just what seperates these guns is the quality of internals. For example in this gun, M4 3181, the gearbox as we call it is made of plastic. The plastic adds a ton of limits such as to what it can take, therefore you end up with a slow rate of fire and slow FPS. They are also likely to break and jam more often. The guns that admin mentioned are made of a higher quality Metal gear box. This allows you more prospect to upgrade and make your gun more durable and reliable.

wow thanks i will definatly be looking at these guns and i haven't gotten money from my grandparents so i will have more than 100 to spend and one of my friends might give me some money for my birthday so i will wait to see how much i get i might be able to afford a nicer gun. and one question... why is backyard airsoft looked down on??? we don't only play in a backyard we also have a small wood area and an open field with a ditch so we arnt only playing in a back yard lol

Backyard airsoft isn't looked down, or at least it is not right. For the simple reason of scarcity of available feilds it is not right to be really looked down upon. That and the fact that some people only play backyard airsoft w/ friends just for fun.

That still does not mean though you don't need a more reliable AEG. Especially if you plan on doing this for more years to come.

I agree with Lone Wolf. Backyard airsoft shouldnt be "Looked Down On" as if I had a choice, I would be right there with you guys in those OPs and Events. But I really DON'T have a choice, I'm stuck in St. Louis, Missori with no prefessional fields.....i feel your pain Lone Wolf!!!

Well, i know nothing of the website, but i do think that the gun is good. I've always wanted that gun, and im deciding if i should get that or not myself. Ive heard much good about it. Being as small as it is, its cheeper, more compact for good cqb fighting, and i hear its pretty accurate for being such a small gun. All in all i would recommend it, but i have never used it...yet!

Here is a very detailed review I wrote of the MP5K, which I wrote for another website. Sorry for the huge length:

INTRODUCTION: My Friend Fish had this gun for a brief time period, and in that time period I took many opportunities to fire it and test it out. It will serve you well in just about any scenario, but I am very skeptical as to if it would be able to compete with higher-end guns, such as my Thompson M1A1, my SOC16, and most of the KWA M4 series. However, I am a HUGE fan of Heckler & Koch, (The company that came out with the real steel model of this gun, along with many other famous guns such as the MP5) This gun is more on the level of my UTG M3 shotgun, or some other guns i can get at maybe...... That being said, here is my review.

ACCURACY of the MP5K is not too great, even for a such a short barrel. I could hit those little trees that are about three inches wide from a maximum of twenty feet away. I can engage a human size target from about a maximum of 60-80 feet, 60 feet being an almost guaranteed hit, 80 feet being a lucky shot.

POWER on this gun is pretty sweet, especially for the size!!, however It isn't the greatest. I am not quite sure if 320 FPS is quite an accurate number, but it could be in that neighborhood. Give or take. I was hit in the face with it four times when Fish stuck the barrel between through two fence posts, and it did indeed sting, enough to make me blatenly curse very loudly in a neighborhood with a family and two little kids out on the deck in the house next to us. however only one of the four left a good welt, just above my upper lip. The other three left tiny dots which went away in about twenty minutes.

ROF/RPM is agreeable, I would say it is around 700 RPM. But the thing is, 700 is the HIGHEST. when the battery is halfway to one-fourth charged, it's only about 600 RPM. And that's rubbish. And in Semi-Auto, this gun does NOT sing. The trigger pull-to-shot time is too long. And If you pull the trigger two many times too fast on semi-auto, the gun will just cease firing and make a *Click* noise when the trigger is pulled. When this happens, do not worry, just put the gun on fully automatic and shoot it a few times, then go back to semi and it should be fine. However, during a war that is unacceptable, especially because it happens so easily with this gun. If you are looking for some sweet double-taps, this guns is NOT for you.

MAGAZINE/CAPACITY of this gun is just fine with me. Uses standard MP5 mags, and is compatible with most Marui mags. It is also compatible with the UTG MP5 magazines. The mag it comes with holds around 150-200 BBs if I recall correctly. The mag had few jams, and had a fairly larger than normal wind up wheel.

EXTERNALLY this gun is pretty sweet, it has a really nice body. it is almost all really dense ABS plastic, with a few metal parts (the usual, sling rings, sights, barrell, etc) One thing you DON'T have to worry about is breaking this gun. It is VERY durable. I have witnessed it being dropped down porch steps, a full flight of carpeted steps, and on concrete sidewalks and streets more than a few times.

THE OVER ALL QUALITY of the JG MP5K is not the best, but hey, a huge part of quality is whether the gun will last or not. And this gun is sure to last! I would say the following stats are something to think about:

JG MP5K:
Accuracy: 6/10
Power: 7/10
Range: 7/10
Durability: 9/10
Looks: 10/10
ROF/RPM: 5/10

WHAT TO CONSIDER is that this gun is cheap, and you just about get what you pay for. But the only thing I would use this for is for a side arm to keep on a sling at my waist when I'm sniping, for that, this thing would do perfect. But, that being said, you can get a KWA MAC 11 for almost the same price and that thing is SO MUCH BETTER, and both are meant to be sidearms. This gun can compete very well with guns of the 8o-140 price range, i guess. I would classify it as a mid-grade AEG. For a decent side arm, this thing well get the job done.

P.S,--Please keep in mind that there may be some deifferences between the MP5K you are looking at, and the one I Reviewed. Thanks.
