| I think that for a begginer a semi auto would not do good because they would never understand the consept of conserving ammo. They need to start with bolt then once they get better then maybe a auto. Just my thoughts | |

- Hey, I don't mean to nOOb up the place here, but......what is a DM? Doesnt it mean like, somebody who is sort of like a sniper, onlt there AEG has greater accuracy and FPS, and generally a lower RPM?? I'm just guessing here, I think I remember it being something like that. But what exactly does it mean and/or stand for?
A DM is a designated marksman, A DMR is a designated marksman rifle Its very easy to confuse the too, which ive done before. A DM is someone who is also like a scout sniper but has the advantages of a AEG. Just not exactly the range. Halo Battle Rifle, anyone, I confuse ppl by saying its the DMR...lol. only may airsoft buddies who play halo get that.

| Actually, I think it all comes down to your playing style, using the bolt action does offer a little bit more in the way of action, but nothing beats a SAEG Sniper rifle when you have multiple targets inside close, to middle ranges. I have played with both and am a proud owner of a TM PSG-1 ( nothing on it is TM anymore ). I do not take head shots, and am a firm believer in the One BB, One Hit, rule. So playing with a Bolt action will force you into playing the role of Sniper more than an SAEG, but if a player has it in his/her mind to play the role correctly, I think it all comes down to a matter of taste. Personaly I find it quite funny how many players want to be the sniper, and most of them are usually the first to leave the field, as the hardcore player knows, It is a lot harder than it looks. | |

| I'll tell you guys what I told jerry47 on theairsoftsniper.com. Secnario, your commanders scouts and (for my team at least) aerial recon have picked up a large force moving on your right flank. You are sent to buy time for your main attack force so they can plant the bomb, capture the flag, kill the VIP ect. ect. So you settle down with your spotter and wait. Your spotter reports the large force converging on your position. So you shoulder your Steyr, M14, G3 and look though your scope. On the airsoft sniper jerry asked me "what if I miss I want a second shot." well you miss then you get your second shot. Hoora you got the kill but at the cost of the fact that your noisy gearbox has alerted the entire force. So they all know your position and are firing as many bbs as possible at you even if you do make it out alive which is a slim to none chance you have failed and have cost your team a game because they broke though. With a bolt action you miss but they don't know where you are and they all dive for cover your now succesfully stalling misssion accomplished. Thats why bolt actions are supreme. | |

You do actually bring up a good point, and one that's been touched on before. The silence of a bolt-action can't be beaten. It's very unnerving to know that you're getting shot at but you've no idea where from. That's 1 point for the bolt-action. BUT, look at this scenario. I was at Operation Blind Fury V this past month and was carrying my CA8-2. There was one instance where we were escorting the captured enemy Commanding Officer back to our HQ and my role was to stay within the vicinity of the escort group but sort of out of sight from the main group. I traveled ahead of the pack (along with a friend) and kept recon of the path ahead (using my scope). At one point we moved around a bend and instantly 3-4 guys walk right up on us. Neither of us knew of the other's whereabouts until we were right up on each other. If it weren't for my ability to switch to full-auto, we would have been slaughtered. I instantly went from the sniper role to the standard rifleman carrying a full-auto rifle with the flick of a switch. This is something you simply can't do with a bolt-action. And with bolt-actions, you have to be extra careful with engagement limits. With a semi/full auto sniper rifle (some may call it a DMR) shooting 400 FPS your engagement limits are greatly reduced, and you open yourself up to switching roles when needed. My effectiveness as a Sniper/Designated Marskman increased tremendously when I switched from my L96 to my SL8. BUT, it's all in preference, really. I still LOVE the feeling of the bolt-action. And the more consistent shots. I just can't let go of my SL8 I'm finding most people don't even think Electric sniper rifles really are even sniper rifles! Just look at my poll on the homepage of my website: http://www.theairsoftsniper.com

| Thats a great point admin and I agree my preference is to carry a bolt action and then to have my A&K PARA SAW so if that happens im carryng my ghilie raped SAW sneaking ahead and then bam. | |
