| More like "The United States of America, leave our schools alone!"
My school district was given til midnight tonight to make 5 million dollars worth of cuts.
PE, music/band, and libraries have been cut at elementary schools... Two schools, with combined enrollment of over 4,000 are being threatened with closure... Ron Hockwalt, my school, is closing at the end of this year... The IB program at 2 high schools is cut... All non-varsity sports programs are on the chopping board... Some 40 teachers are being laid off...
AND THATS JUST MY DISTRICT! School districts across the nation are being impacted!
These are dark times for the US's educational system.
My history class at my old school, Diamond Bar High, had 52 students. There were 30 desks. 35 text books.
And now the government is saying we need to cut an ADDITIONAL 7 MILLION by this June.
Anyone else being impacted? This has thrown off my entire path to college. I may need an extra year of high school to make up for all the lost classes. I was actually on a path to graduate as a Junior next year with full credits...but that's not happening now, is it.

| Yeah, and a few months ago they did another ridiculous thing, they raised the fees for my brother's school (UC Berkeley, along with several/most other UC's) by like 60% or something... Maybe it was 40%... but he had a hard enough time paying them before that. Thank Godd for scholarships.
Also my sister's boyfriend's classes at UCLA were cut due to budgets. (He was/is a history major at a mainly medical school).

| Obama needs to take action. Who cares if the reds and blues disagree with each other over this..."one man of courage makes a majority."
He needs to be the JFK the voters expected him to be. Other than this issue, I think he's doing quite well considering our nation's circumstances. I just wish he would focus his energy more on education. Universal healthcare is nothing without the education system to support new doctors. Solving the economic crisis is nothing if the next generation of the adult americans isn't taught to maintain their finances.

| Yeah like it or not...Obamas been doing pretty "Watch your language" well..especialy on the war on terror, in his first year in office more terrorist leaders have been captured then in the entire bush administration years.
Back on topic tho..I realy would love to see better education standards here...this binge and purge method used here is BS and its going to get the US in some serious trouble, considering China has more genuis students then the US has students

| New York's had a lot of budget cuts, but I don't think there have been may in the education area. Maybe last year, but nothing horrible.
@Zane - He's doing good with what he got from Bush. The Presidents who had bad approval ratings generally followed an unsuccessful administration (correct me if I'm wrong, but was it LBJ who inherited Vietnam? Or was it Nixon? Hmm. Time for a Google search...)

| Yeah, we don't have anything here, either. Our MCJROTC unit was promised 500 square feet of storage space, a full size classroom, and a range facility. We have a small office. | |
