| 1891/30 Mosin-Nagant named Tatianna. So excited about it i have to show it off. The Mosin-Nagant and my Yugo SKS (top) named Katia. "Hex style" receiver is pre-WWII style which was a cylinder design done for easier manufacture. Bayonets. The Nagants is basically a spike with a cross design instead of the usual blade like the SKS's. The spike is a real nasty piece of steel. Comparison of 7.62 Soviet (Left) and the 7.62 Russian (Right) rounds. I've always wanted one of these after shooting a few and i finally got one today as a early birthday gift. By the markings the gun was refurbished somewhere in the Ukraine and is a 1928 Dragoon rifle reworked into a 1891/30 variant in the Izhevsk Armory. Haven't shot her yet but i'm hoping to hit the range maybe this weekend and shoot a few rounds. | |

| Those are nice been thinking about Nagant. They arn't very expensive are they? Last I checked one was like $100 no clue on condition that is all I remember about it. Dad wouldn't be as hard to convince as my mom but possibly in a few years possibly less. *edit* Btw I used to have those new balences a few years ago. | |

| Very nice!!! One time I saw a Yugoslavian 1950's era Nagant at Big 5, special price of $89! My brother would have taken it, but he had to go back to school like the next day, so it wouldn't really work what with all the waiting period and application forms and registration and all that fun stuff. | |

| Thanks. Mine was a $100 and it came with the bayonet, sling, ammo pouch, oil can, and a 1 year warranty. Usually a Mosin-Nagant like this one goes for around maybe $100-$140 (i have seen them for $250+), i think more if it's like an M44 carbine variant. Interesting thing about this rifles is that before the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, you could pick them up for $40-$60 almost anywhere. Still kick myself for not getting my dad to buy one for me since i way underage lol.
SKS's are fun to shoot. I forgot how much mine was but i traded in a M1 Carbine for it at a pawn shop several years ago.

I've seen ads in Rifleman and CC magazine for Nagant's at $100 for including the same extras yours came with (including warranty)...is that where you got it from (I'm trying to pick through my brain to remember the name of the company)? Thinking about having one pick up...I'm getting bored with my remington...and Mosins are stating to grow on me. You've just reminded me that I still have the .22 conversion kit on my Kimber...I'm going to swap it out and see if I can't get my hands on some .45's...haven't seen em anywhere lately.

| Hmm, I owe the real version of that rifle, but I have never shot it. I gotta say, that looks cools. | |

| Got it from an outdoor supply/gun emporium store called Gander Mountain. I think they're more of an east coast chain so i don't know if there's any out west. They really fun to shoot and quite powerful too, i may try and go deer hunting with mine sometime.
I'd like to track down a bent handle sniper bolt to throw on it someday and then add a 3.5x PU scope if i can scrape up the cash for one.

| Awesome. Saved this link to my favorites: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=161575824#PICThe guy has an A+ rating so I'll go check his other sales...says he has more than one Mosin in stock. Think I might just pick that up as a congratulatory gift for getting in JFK Now lets talk ammo. What prices are we looking at for the 7.62x54R's? Looks like I can pick up surplus bulk packages for about $90 for a 440 tin... I've honestly never purchased suplus ammunition...so I'm kinda shakey on the quality. Know if Hornady or a trusted manufacture makes quality loads? Worst case I buy components and load em myself...haven't been on the press in a while... BTW...I've been wondering this for a LONG time. Tracer legallity in California. Seen people using them...but then I hear they're banned? Whats the deal? Been wanting to get my hands on a few just for kicks. | |

| That's a nice looking one. Ammo cost isn't really to bad, it's surprisingly a little cheaper then 7.62x39 for my SKS at Gander Mt. $90 for a case of 440 is the best price i've seen so far and personally i wouldn't think anything bad about using it if you're just target shooting for fun. I've shot 100 year old ammo out of a friends M44 Mosin-Nagant and it shot fine. Oh put 35 rounds through mine today, one of the most fun guns i've ever shot. And not bad for being 82 years old either. | |

| Man I wish I could get into real steel shooting. Best I could get is to pay a hefty price to rent a pistol and ammo and shoot it for 1 hour at a crappy indoor shooting range... Not worth the cost in my opinion. But I love Mosin-Nagants. Always wanted to own one or at least use one for a day | |

I've always been a bit shakey on using old ammo because of those wives tales about powder expiring and blowing rifles clean open. I'll have to see. Might as well just go with the surplus stuff for now...and if I decide to use it for game, I'll probably find components and hand load. I'm excited. The more I look online, the larger the Mosin community seems to be. Forums every which way...Mosin-only surplus stores...groups on Facebook Seems like they have a big following. We'll see how the next few weeks go money wise. Might have to fit a new rifle into the budget

| Haha yeah i'm finding a huge amount of sites and resources on it. I even joined that FB group last night. I'm planning to buy some of this ammo over the summer since i won't be free to shoot for awhile, link.. From the marking on the can it looks like it was made in the late 70's (look in between the BT C markings) so it's not overly old. Plus they say they carry that ammo made in the 70s-80s. It's Russian ammo too being used in an old Russian gun, shouldn't be many problems. EDIT: On a cool note i saw a H&K PTR 91 (civilian G3) at Gander Mt. yesterday for like $580, they didn't know what it was lol. Had old style wood furniture instead of the newer plastic handguard and stock. Oh i wish i had the money, those guns are a lot of fun to shoot. | |

| Ahhhh. true fun. I enjoy taking my mosin nagant out every once and a while. The only thing I've every noticed about them is that the bolt on mine can stick sometimes, but they are very enjoyable rifles. +1 | |

| My friends M44 bolt sticks a little as well. I think it has something to do with how they make their ammo, it can really gunk parts up sometimes. I just cleaned and oiled mine last night and the bolt while not silky smooth, is smoother then it was. | |
