| Hello, Accordion Man here. So I was thinking of roles like "which role should I play?" but that would be impossible to answer, so instead I decided to make this... NOTE: This may be a demanding post please do not be angry at me.
1. on a scale of 1-10 how action does each role see?
2. some gear that might be needed for certain roles.
3. which role is typically most useful? (this might be a impossible question but I figured I'd try...)
4. expense of each role, 1-10 scale.
5. guns available for the role
See you later...Cyberspace Style!

| The following answers are based solely on my own personal experience and opinions. - Accordion man wrote:
- 1. on a scale of 1-10 how action does each role see?
Rifleman = 8 Pointman (CQB) = 8 Squad Gunner = 6 DM = 5 Sniper = 4 - Accordion man wrote:
- 2. some gear that might be needed for certain roles.
Rifleman = Mid-range AEG...select-fire..."assault rifle" style. Pointman = High-ROF...low FPS..."sub machinegun" style. Squad Gunner = High ROF...moderate FPS..."LMG" stye. DM = Semi-auto...high FPS..."DMR" style. Sniper = Bolt action...high FPS... - Accordion man wrote:

In my opinion, rifleman. - Accordion man wrote:
- 4. expense of each role, 1-10 scale.
Rifleman = 5-9 Pointman = 4-7 Squad Gunner = 6-10 DM = 5-10 Sniper = 2-10 Price is really hard to calculate...given different people like different capabilities... But in general, I would say $200-400 is the average for almost any role as far as primary replica's go. - Accordion man wrote:
- 5. guns available for the role
Rifleman = M4, AK, etc...any select-fire AEG or GBB Pointman = MP5, MP7, etc...any sub-machine gun AEG or GBB Squad Gunner = SAW, Ares LMG, etc...any "light machine gun" AEG (or GBB, If you can find one) DM = SR-25, M4-DMR, etc... Sniper = Bar-10, L96, etc...

| I play rifle man and there is plenty of action seen, but by far in my experience I am better with and have more fun playing Cqb, I like door breaches! | |

| sniper is probably a 20....seeing as i am one and you will put over 1K (1,000)+ into a good rifle. great rifles usually run 1.5K+ the good thing is that you don't have to buy it all at once....
DM means designated marksman DMR means designated marksman rifle....
you should probably start as a rifleman and then change according to your needs.

That's what I was thinking, a lot of people go into airsoft saying, "Oh yeah I'm going to be a sniper and I have to be a sniper and I don't want to do anything else" and realize shortly after that their "team" is made up of 5 snipers. To anyone, I would suggest starting out with a mid-level AEG, such as JG, Echo1, or CYMA. Any old M4, M16, AK, G36 will do for your first gun.

| Didn't include the Grenadier role...lemme give that jab: - Accordion man wrote:

Grenadier = 8 (Assuming the grenadier is using a weapon-mounted launcher) = 6 (Assuming the grenadier is using a stand-alone launcher and sidearm) - Accordion man wrote:
- 2. some gear that might be needed for certain roles.
Grenadier: -Lots of nades -Select-fire AEG (M4/M16 style prefered for under-weapon mounted launchers) -Pouches for nades -M203 or other launcher system -G&P M203 Heat Shield -Standalone launcher (If not using an under-weapon mounted system) - Accordion man wrote:
- 4. expense of each role, 1-10 scale.
Grenadier = Will run you up past $500 for decent AEG, launcher, and grenades. - Accordion man wrote:
- 5. guns available for the role
-M16/M4 (Prefered) -CA/Echo1 M203 or STAR Standalone Launcher

| ah... well then... I currently have what I believe to be a good AEG (JG G3 SG-1) and it has around 390 FPS so they advise that to try out being a sniper, use it on semi and see how you like it... anyway I'll try that this weekend (got an airsoft party scheduled) and I'll try being the rifleman... I'll see how I like the two roles.... | |

Well, just a heads up...might want to go by the Designated Marksman role, if anything. Sniper implies field craft and generally, bolt action. Not saying "snipers" only use bolt action, as it is very common for SASS systems to be used...just saying that I believe the role you are looking for is as a DM. I would classify the G3 as a assault-class rifle normally...but given the length of the barrel, it's borderline DMR. In all honesty, its how you use it. Sniper...DM...rifleman...your pick. Unless you're doing mil-sim, it really doesnt matter what you call yourself ...and even then, its a game, nobody will care

| I don't really believe in allot of the roles listed. Heres my personal list, I do play allot of MilSim so this list is greatly influenced by my MilSim play. 1: Squad Leader(or higher ranking CO/XO/PL) 4 Rifleman 5-10 SAW operator 7 sniper 2 medic 4 Fire Team Leader 7 EOD/other "mission specific personnel" 1-10 depending on the mission. 2: SL Good radio, compass, Map. Everything else in less important, "Watch your language" loud voice Rifleman: good rifle, Squad level radio, good boots, map SAW: Mimic of a modern SAW, aka M249 or MG36 etc, Radio, loud voice, lots of BB's... Sniper: VERY GOOD RADIO!!!!, Map(map skills as well), compass, water, food, then lastly the rifle(hardly shoots anyways...). Medic: Good boots, Knee pads, watch, radio, some form of medic identification(may be provided), radio FTL: Good radio, Compass, loud voice, pretty good rifle EOD /other: can't say, mission specific really. 3: They all have their places. But people seem to skip over the rifleman..... 4: Depends on how serious you want to take it... A friend is a rifleman/FTL and has $2500 in gear and guns.... I do the same but my current setup is around $500, thats going to grow though . Expect to pay about $400 for all of the basics. 5: SL: whatever he/she likes Rifleman: whatever SAW: Real steel counterpart with a high capacity box mag and large battery Sniper: Some form of SASS, Bolt action. Not as important as a good radio and compass though! Medic: Preferably something like a carbine, wont get in the way but you will have the range when you do fire. FTL: whatever he/she wants... EOD/other: usually same as medic because you will be using your hands more than your rifle. I lumped Grenadier, DM, Point man, etc all into the rifleman category. In airsoft you may have a M203, however your going to be shooting the attached rifle much more than the GL. You will probably give more covering fire as a DM than precision shots. As for the "CQB/pointman", the best pointmen I ever got to follow were both using longer guns and had previous military. One was a 0311 marine that used a TM M14, and one was a Army recon scout that used a supressed CQBR. Also one thing to note is in the military and in airsoft the job of a junior squad member is to learn all the other jobs incase someone goes down. In airsoft this happens allot so you may see a grenadier suddenly acting as a Support gunner throwing down suppression in 100 round bursts. Or a medic may be designated a FTL when the FTL gets hit. DM is suddenly the point man etc. Just some food for thought. sticks | |

| I agree with sticks. Learn your job, learn your squadmates' jobs, and learn how to do them well. When the shat hits the fan and your squad leader goes down, you don't have time to bullshit around and pick who's going to do what. There should be no hesitation; move into your new job and do the best you can at it. Make sure everybody knows what to do when somebody gets out. | |

| I generally do pointman for my team. This role is for fast paced, aggressive tactics to overwhelm the enemy, or to take them when they are off guard. This sees A LOT of action, but many people HATE doing this. It involves thinking, and physical agility to properly do. You will either hate it or love it. Give it a try, at least I also do rifleman (as much as pointman- but usually play it the same way- haha), and have done sniper (HATE!!) when our team's was sick. I used to be a sniper on my old team, and it really is not needed in airsoft in an event under 1123546345132 people. Just my opinion, though. | |

| and sticks comes up with the `` Win ´´ again !!!!
Being a Mil-Simmer I fully agree.
Depending on the definition of `` Action ´´, any of the leadership roles will most definatly fill the required standard of action packed, especially at large events/games.
