PostSubject: Desert Tiger Stripe   Desert Tiger Stripe Icon_minitimeMon Mar 29, 2010 11:54 pm

Well my teams new uni is desert tiger stripe so i need to pick up a pair..

http://www.amazon.com/Tru-Spec-Cotton-Rip-Stop-Jacket-Original/dp/B002D3TW60/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1269916687&sr=8-1
The above link is the kind my friend got, the only thing is i would have to order it separately and that is too expensive. I can't register on other sites to order stuff... and my local surplus store overprices items.

http://cgi.ebay.com/US-Army-Desert-Tiger-Stripe-Camo-BDU-Uniform-Set-L_W0QQitemZ120545056581QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Men_s_Athletic_Apparel?hash=item1c110b9745

This one seems like a good price, but the color looks off.. I have no experience from ordering overseas, and I don't know about the color. Anyone ever ordered something that looked off color, but it came in good? I don't know if i should order it or not.

The color is off...the pattern is off...the name is even off...on the Ebay one.
Since when has tiger stripe been USMC?

But it wasn't actually issued...they just issued the standard OD crap. I thought only SF guys used tiger stripe...because they bought them privately.

Quote :
Tigerstripe was never an official US-issue item. Personnel permitted to wear it at first had their camo fatigues custom-made by local tailors, ARVN uniforms being too small for most Americans; for this reason there were many variations of the basic tigerstripe pattern. From 1969 5th Special Forces Group contracted with Vietnamese producers to make fatigues and other items such as boonie hats using ARVN fabric. During the latter stages of the war, tigerstripe was gradually replaced by the-then-new ERDL pattern, a predecessor of the woodland BDU pattern.
