| I never have understood this, but what is a VFA? I know it is an aircraft group, but what does it stand for, how many aircraft actually constitutes one, and just a couple examples/other info. Thanks! | |

| V stands for "fixed wing"
the F stands for "fighter"
the A stands for "attack" or bomber
So the F/A (fighter/attack)-18 is identified by the acronym VFA
all USN F18 squadrons are VFA-(number)
all USMC F18 squadrons are VMFA-(number)
Example VFA-103 | |
