How much is it expected to be? I may need to purchase one for MilSim games.

@Drummer
I think it's supposed to hold bbs or something.

.... would be ineffective. They're intended to be used to stop convoys, not as an areal denial device. I see these as having a lot of potential, really.

It has been for me too. I just realized that this thing is in a ammo can. Can anyone prove that this would shoot BBs out or not?

Well ya...
...but you'd think the maker of this product would make it something more along the lines of a "stereotypical" IED.

A plastic ammo canister isn't the first (or second, or third, etc.) thing to come to mind when you think of improvides explosive devices heheh.

There will be a bb launching model,( if I remember correctly) as well as a smoke model this model is the basic difusal one, also based on A nuclear device, they will start at 100 US dollars for standard version and an addition amount for upgrades. This is not the only model, there will be more including c4 and dynamite. This version requires the EOD to difuse, by pulling the right wire while the timer is going (time is critical!

I really, really, really like this idea. I can already see a scenario for it.... you could have two, the first one (smoke) to hit the convoy, then a second one (bbs) to hit the guys who get out to look at the smoke. EOD finds it and has a limited amount of time to diffuse it before the rest of the on lookers get hit with bbs... This has some great potential.

I don't know, i have very mixed opinions about this. I can only these being really popular with ultra realistic milsim games which i take it is what they're being made for. On the other hand though i think making your own would be more cost effective and probably realistic considering we're talking about IED's which can be made out of almost anything that can go boom and aren't uniform in appearance.

That said personally i don't think it's right to be making these yet. I get the milsim thing but i don't know right now with IED's being used to wound and kill so many of our troops i personally don't like the idea of "playing" one of those scenarios.

ilft99, think about this. Many troops, cops, contractors, etc etc play MilSim as a way to hone their combat skills without playing with those expensive, not to mention painful, chalk rounds. Won't a fake IED only prepare them for something they will have to face overseas or, Don't use the Lord's name in vain. Forbid, at home? I understand where you are coming from though, ilft99.

I'm sure this replica is NOTHING like the actual disarming process that EOD does overseas.
Pulling a wire out of a chrome ball? Doesnt seem to darn realistic to me.

As for replicating IED attacks...its been done before...for less money than this thing will be...
...in the form of compressed air guns that shoot flour or smoke simulator with remote air release.

I'm not implying it's realistic to the actual disarming process. I'm just saying it prepares the soldiers, Marines, whatever for the waiting and the spontanaeity (sp?).

PostSubject: Re: JTAP- Joplin Tactical Airsoft Products   JTAP- Joplin Tactical Airsoft Products Icon_minitimeMon Apr 26, 2010 6:55 pm

Ok, I want to clarify a few things. First, I am the maker/devloper of these devices, so I am the expert on them.

These devices are put in METAL ammo cans for ease of transport, and concealment. To abide by federal regulations we don't want to display a device looking like this in transport. Therefore it is covered with the ammo can. These are not cheaply made as they are designed for simulation and we understand the brutality of these kinds of events. Besides, what better way to carry this in the field than an ammo can? It's the perfect container for devices like this, cause it "fits" with the rest of your gear.

These are great for ALL kinds of airsoft players. Who doesn't want to have an objective based game where you go in set the bomb or defuse the bomb, there are so many scenarios it would literally take pages to list them all. These devices are marketed to EVERYONE in the airsoft world. We are trying to keep them under $200 with basic models as low as $100 so that people will be able to reasonably add this to their arsenal. There will be many different models and upgrades for each model. Mind you, these are making a debut at Oklahoma Invasion this year, and will be developed more as we get feedback from the players.

These devices will have many "output" options. The first designs will have loud alarms, or lights, or popping noises to accompany them. With later/upgrade options being developed for smoke or baby powder. They are built around the concept of defusal. These particular devices are not deisigned to shoot bbs in any manner (although with your ideas, they could be modified to include that idea). The idea here is that they CAN be defused, basically like a puzzle. There is no "PRETENDING TO DEFUSE" these devices, you either defuse them or they go off and their output determines their effect. There will be some models where the correct wires have to be pulled out and some where there is a combination of switches or both. These devices will be very customizable for each customer and their specific wishes.

These are different from real IEDS (obviously) in that a real IED would not be made to be defused. We have had interest in this mainly for the objective gaming it provides, we have even had police departments interested to give an idea of whats happening, not necessarily to replicate REAL IED defusal.

We also plan on developing bb projecting devices, everything from mines, mortars, rpgs, and even 360* traps (a custom design). However, for now we are producing these devices as our "flagship" design. We will also be able to produce custom designs if players have ideas for certain devices.

Cool cool. Thanks for the info, Joplin.

Didnt mean to sound like I was bagging on your product, just clarifying that these were not proper analogs for military/law enforcement IED training as one member suggested.

I agree with iliveforthis...I see little interest in static weapons.
Mines, claymores, etc...they just don't sell.

But as a scenario prop, I guess its a cool idea.

I would love to hear more about he mortars/RPG's...

I'm more interested in the RPG's and mortars now. Those are hard to come by and are personally a lot more appealing then these IED's.
