Stock and aftermarket hop-ups Empty
PostSubject: Stock and aftermarket hop-ups   Stock and aftermarket hop-ups Icon_minitimeMon May 24, 2010 2:52 pm

so i was wondering what the real difference between for example a stock JG hop-up and a Promethius or JG enhanced hop-up?

what does the hop-up do besides put some spin on the bb? does a different hop-up mean better efficiency in points such a fps or accuracy?
and what exactly is the difference between hard bucking and soft bucking?

better build, and higher rubber quality? that's for the bucking, for the actual hop up UNIT, the difference would be that different companies use different systems and techniques to perfectly craft their hop ups...
Wish I could help more

Soft bucking for under 400 fps, hard bucking for over 400 fps.

A metal hopup will be better for longevity (because it's metal), fps (because it seals tighter), and rof (because it's smoother inside). I hear Prometheus is the best for both bucking and hopup. I have a Systema hopup, and my only complaints are that A: after 5/6 of a rotation adding hop it goes back to 0 hop because there's no stopper, and B: I had to shave down the forward most gear to make it fit in my G&G. I could have just used my stock gears, but I wanted to have two complete barrel assemblies just in case.

i read something about metal hopups not correctly fitting in plastic receivers... is this true?

Quote :
Not all OEM parts match each manufatures Specs, thats why they don´t fit, the Guide Rails in a Plastic receiver can be modified to accept a Metal Hop-Up, but this is not a MOD for a beginner, installing the HOP-Up off center, the gun will never perform well again.

Here is the Low Down on your Hop Up Buckling ( Rubber ),

The difference between a standard and a tuning Buckling is the quality of the Product, your after market or tuning Bucklings on the average are of a better quality Rubber, and have Fans ( added nipples ) inside of the Buckling. The Fans allow for a better and finer adjustment.

Don´t go getting wrapped around the axel about using a Soft or Hard Buckling, alot of different variables come into play first i.e., BB Weight, Quality of BB, Consistancy of FPS, outside Temp., Humidity. It is a process of trial and error, you may find that you will have better results using a Soft Buckling, shooting 550FPS in cold or humid weather with .35g BB´s, or a Hard Buckling, shooting 350FPS in Hot Dry weather with .25g BB´s.

A great buckling will increase your accuracy and range when used with quality BB´s.

As far as the Hop-Up assembly, Metal does not mean Better. The main reason for a metal Hop-Up is not Durability, it´s survivability. If you should happen to `` Punch Out ´´ a GB, the plastic will not survive the impact of the piston, a metal one will ( In most cases ).

All Hop-Up´s suffer from the same problems, not holding the Hop, resetting, it dosn´t matter if it is Plastic or Metal. A few simple tricks to remove the problem, replace the metal washers with rubber ones, add an extra washer, loosen the set screw when adjusting the Hop-Up, a drop of Screw Set ( similar to Lock Tight ), on the Hop-Up adjustment wheel when Hop is correct.

Who makes the best ?? This can be argued, it all comes down to personal favorites, some like Prometheus ( Lay-Lax ), others Mad Bull Sharks, TM Hard and so on, IMHO the very best is the Kurage Spicy, they last forever, work amazingly in either Low FPS or High ( to include Extreme) FPS ranges, the only problem is finding them.

Hope this helps.
