| What do you guys think of retractable vs. Collapsable stocks? I'm buying a brand new echo 1 MP5 a5 from my friend when my birthday comes around. He's moving to a place that has banned airsoft so I'm getting it for 100 rather than 200. I'm gonna put a tac hand guard with a built in flashlight on it and I'm putting an MP5K collapsable style stock on it. Would you advise against this or recommend it? Personally, I like collapsable better because I can one hand it and weave around corners better. Thoughts? | |

- I personally recommend replicas with folding or collapsable stocks, my favorite being the G36C. The folding stock on my G36C proved invaluable on the CQB field. When I was clearing house-like structures, things where the average engagement was under five feet, I could fold the stock and have great mobility. If I was out on the main street and I need to reach out and touch someone, all I had to do was pop the stock back out and shoulder it. If I needed to beat feet and move unimpeded, I'd just fold the stock and run across to wherever.
I tried three different platforms; the M4 platform, the G36C platform, and the MP5K platform. I had a nice little GBB MP5K that was wonderful for those "OH SH1T" situations. If somebody came around a corner and surprised me, all I had to do was bring the barrel up and let off the mag (32 round mag + 40 R/S ROF = 1 Second of Fully Automatic Bliss). I also loved it for clearing real close quarters, much like I did with the G36C.
The M4 platform was by far my least favorite. While I could definitely maneuver with it and all that, it was still a "Watch your language" use in the hallways and all that. You'd always have to keep your barrel either elevated or down to keep from dragging it on the wall, which is far from being battle ready if you ask me. I will say though, it could reach out and touch someone if it needed to. It also put a lot of plastic down range when needed.
Just my two cents, take it if you want it!

| I like folding. But usually only because I can then fold it in and hit corners harder. | |

| Thanks jarhead. I have to agree with liking collapsible stocks better. Like you said, I can have it completely closed for those "oh crap" moments and I can also have it fully extended (probably not the right expression.) for when I have to hit a target from farther away. Plus the replica chronoed in at 350-380 so Its got a pretty good range. Anyone else? | |

| I think the best style for CQB though, is the P90. It's a body hugger so you don't have to worry about your barrel sticking out around corners ahead of you, it's rounded so it doesn't get caught up on gear, and it's very controllable. The entire thing is like a point of contact, so it's nearly like firing an extension of your arm. I'd probably have to say the P90 is the best style for CQB | |

I disagree. I actually think that a AR15 CQB system with a folding stock (maybe) and a 7.5 inch barrel + rail system, BUIS, and an optic is the best weapon for CQB. (see troy m7)

| I personally see the P90 system as the best for CQB. But let's agree to disagree, shall we? I'm too tired to debate tonight, haha | |

| Meh, I like the P90 but it's too small for me. When I aim I scrunch up too much and it's extremely uncomfortable. That's why I like the MP5. | |

Fair enough. The P90 does not fit in my hand.

| Which is why you'd get a scope riser to bring your optics up to your face instead of bringing your face to your optics. P90's can rock a cantaliver like Betty Rubble. | |

| I use both, but in a CQB situation I personally like retractable more than a folding stock. The reason is the retractable has waaaayyyyy more stability when in a CQB environment. When you fold the stock on a weapon its vertical axis changes from the pistol grip of the gun, to about where the mag well is. This means your accuracy is really going to decrease because the gun "wobbles" more without a stock.... The collapsible stocks are actually not made so someone can collapse it during CQB, they were first made so that Paratroopers had a smaller weapon on jumps. Allot of the folders were designed for specific units that would have a harder time with a full sized weapon, ie Arty, airborne, armored cav, air cav, tank crews, etc etc. When you see these units fight they always have the stocks extended or un-folded.
That said I do use a G36C for almost everything now. I however do not fold the stock when I'm in a MOUT or CQB environment. The gun is small enough for me to maneuver with the stock un-collapsed. But then again, some people over here used to run M16's and M14's in CQB.... It just all depends on how you handle/maneuver your guns.
