SureFire G2 Nitrolon Empty

About two weeks ago, I bought a SureFire G2 Nitrolon (link) light on a whim. These are just some of my thoughts and a little info on it.

Price
It's cheap, but in a good way. I bought it at an outdoor store in Durango, Colorado for a mere $30. Included with it were two SureFire brand CR123A batteries, the required amount of batteries to operate the light. Additional batteries were extremely cheap, as far as CR123A's go. If I remember correctly, I paid $2.50 for two batteries.

Lumens/Operation
This light will put out a good 120 lumens when in use, a lumen count I like to see for lights I use on field. It's blinding, even in noon-time sunlight. The light has two modes of operation, momentary on and constant on. To activate momentary on, you merely need to press the button on the tailcap. When pressure is taken off the tailcap, the light will go off. To activate constant on, you only need to twist the tailcap. Twist the opposite direction and the light will go off. Both of these actions can be done with one hand.

Use As A Weapons Light
This light would be an excellent rifle-mounted light, however, it is a little wide for my light mount. This is a little disappointing. I have not yet tried to use it with any other mounts. It is excellent for use with a sidearm because it's short and easy to control. The G2 features a raised grid pattern giving you an enhanced grip with sweaty palms or gloves. This light is very tough. I've been able to stand on mine (remember, I'm 240 pounds) with no damage to the light at all. SureFire claims this light is waterproof, but I have not tested that yet so I can not say.

Accessories
Accessories for the G2 are plentiful and can be found at many police supply stores, hunting stores, and outdoors stores. Accessories available include but are not limited to push-button tail caps, lens filters, IR filters, LED lamps, rechargeable battery kits, attack bezels, and holsters. This light is very versatile.

Bottom Line
This is a cheap, rugged, versatile light that I think deserves to be in everybody's gear locker. For only $30, you'd be crazy not to buy one. SureFire has won over a new, loyal customer with their G2!

Hello. I've been in the military for over 17 years & have used quite a few flashlights in that time. I agree with you that the G2 is a dang fine light. Before I had my G2, my old favorite was a Streamlight Scorpion - they can take a beating, rubber grip - which proved itself handy when wet... Now I got a http://www.opticsplanet.net/surefire-g2x-pro-dual-output-led-200-15-lumens-flashlight.html SureFire G2X Pro Dual-Output LED 200/15 Lumens Flashlight for $65. It's worth it. Made from the same tough plastic like the G2, but this one is much brighter (200 Lumens / run's for 2.5 Hours), AND its also got a low mode (15 Lumens / 45 Hours!) which is extremely handy for lots of uses & save your batteries! I haven't float/sink tested it yet. Think its a sinker ;/
