| Big car wreck 2 doors down. Car went through (litterally cut it in half) a pickup truck, flipped...ended up on its side on the grass leaking fuel and smoking...I ran out right away just in time to help the driver crawl from the wreck. Myself and a man from up the street were the first to get to him. He stood up, then collapsed. Was obviously in shock, kept repeating his name and address. About 10 minutes later, the EMS/fire/PD started showing up. He's on his way to the hospital right now...lucky to be alive. If that truck wasn't there to stop him he woulda been parked in that house...and likely dead. I have video of the guy driving, but I was told to delete it by the responding police officers. Still have some gnarly video clips and pics though. This just happened...at 1am or so. Those of you that are friends with me on Facebook, I'm posting a video. Then a video will be posted on here in the coming hours. | |

His nose hit the dash and it's pretty well flattened out on his face...other than that, he's just shook up. When I ran up to the crash I had expected to see a dead man, or at least broken limbs. He was extremely lucky. - A. sniper wrote:

The fire captain said he had to have been going at least 70 mph. If that truck wasn't parked on the curb for him to hit, he would have hit the chimney...and likely wouldn't of walked away.

Do you know if the guy was intoxicated or anything? Naw, he was in extreme shock when I got to him...and he just kept saying his name over and over again. Tried calming him...eventually he kinda just say down and said "did I do that?". Was like "uh, ya...you're in shock...just stay still." Then he went off mumbling about how he had just flown home from vacation in asia and he was tired. So ya, I think he was just tired and fell asleep at the wheel.

| From my own experience, driving when tired is incredibly dangerous. I'd compare it to driving drunk, but I've never done that. What you need to do is just get off the road. Those lines hypnotize you and put you to sleep. Just stop for 15 minutes, close your eyes, relax. 5-hour energy works well for me. If you still can't concentrate after a short break, find a place to park for a few hours, maybe a freeway rest stop or a fast food joint. Sleep for 3 hours or so. Wake up refreshed. You'll no longer be a danger on the road.
I was coming home from a rave a year or so back. It was a 3 hour freeway drive between 4 and 7 in the morning after having driven there 3 hours and partied for 8 hours straight. The city driving was fine. It was interesting enough and took enough concentration to keep me awake.
About an hour after I hit the freeway, I started losing focus. Both of my passengers were asleep. I couldn't keep my eyes open. The rumble strip on the shoulder of the freeway woke me up no less than 3 times. The bumps between my lane and the middle lane woke me up at least once. I was \"Watch your language\" lucky that nobody else was on the road at that time. \"Watch your language\" lucky I didn't hit a guard-rail or a deer or some other thing.
I stopped after about an hour and a half and we had some fast food breakfast. That little break of not looking at lines. Of eating something. Of talking with someone. That gave me what I needed to make it home safely. I really don't want to think about what could have happened that night.
I don't mean to steal the thread. It's just important to realize how dangerous it is and how it can happen to anyone. Not just some guy, but me and you.

| Omega said it. I can't even drive, but I've been in the car with my dad when he will almost fall asleep. Almost every time I would get in the car, he would fall asleep. I was scared for my life during those times. | |

| Ok so I stayed up for hours emailing members of city council to have them put in speed bumps or barriers on this curve to prevent further accidents.
I cited multiple accidents that have happened on the turn over the years I've lived here.
The "assistant city manager" emails me back...and it is nothing short of mockery. He's saying he contacted the sheriff's department and they don't have records of any incidents there. WTF? There are 15 witnesses that can tell him otherwise!
I'm going to take this directly to the mayor, because obviously her officials could care less about something a 16 year old is saying.
