| Came across some guys in Russia (I believe)...they're a mil-sim group, borderline paramilitary (they do RS exercises, repelling, etc...) Anyway, one of their pictures was of these chopped bullets (followed by pictures of a live-fire exercise): Now what I'm wondering is what is the purpose? Increased fragmenting? They can't understand English so it's tough. | |

| i remember seeing this before. Basic the criss cross chopped bullet it meant to penetrate then just break apart inside the target.
As for the flat top, i believe it is mean to knock targets down, larger area more kinetic energy.
These are just my guesses. I have seen people do the criss cross cuts before though. but that was forever ago

| the basic point of the criss cross cut is so they can't take the bullet out, because there is no longer a bullet, just fragments all through the inside | |

| When I go to Alaska, the bullets we take are flat top like the one above. Better hurt for bears if the situation calls for it. | |

then what i said would make sense, because bears require a lot of stopping power. especially if they charge you ( i used to live in alaska )
