Apparently North Korea shelled the \"Watch your language\" out of a South Korean island, leading to 1 death, 3 critically injured and 15+ injured.
The strange thing is that there was no provocation at all to have caused NK to do this. SK was doing Naval exercises but other than that there was nothing at all. The reason the naval exercise is not a valid provocation to NK is because SK does it all the time so the north koreans are used to it. So why now?
I hope this all goes peacefully! 대한미국 화이팅!!!!!!

It's up to 2 deaths now and SK did start the whole thing by firing into NK's waters. Sure it's a trivial thing but the way NK acts it's pretty reckless and foolish to do it and then be shocked they got hit back.

N.Korea is full of \"Watch your language\". They've been doing crap like this since the armistice in 1953. N.Korea will poke the heck out of S.Korea, SK will poke back, NK will back away and whine about it, the UN will impose stricter sanctions, NK will ignore them. It's all just a poorly executed plan to keep the US, China, and Russia's eyes on poor old N.Korea. Nuclear facilities? Ya, they're never going to use them offensively. They're just bartering terms to get economic support from father China, military resolve with the Uncle Sam, and political reconciliation with mother Russia.
The only way it would come to all out war on the Korea Peninsula would be if S.Korea would initiate attacks...which they won't...UNLESS it is in retribution for the death of SK civilians and/or American personnel. Even then, the US has great economic interests in SK, so they will do all they can to keep the situation from escalating.
For about a month, there will be silence between the two sides. Then NK will do something stupid again. SK will respond. The cycle will continue.

Good point. It has been back and forth like this for a long long time, however these occurances do seem to be happening more and more often with less time spaced in between. There wwas the sinking of the SK ship that killed about 46 SK personell, also there was a border conflict where both sides fired at each other's GP's and now this incident.
Honestly, I think the whole world is getting really tired of NK's antics especially China. (which is a surprise considering China is pretty much NK's one and only ally.
Sooner or later the shite will hit the fan, and it will spread fecal matter all over.

Naw, we have no reason to have boots on the ground on the peninsula other than what we already have now. It will never go beyond this petty back-and-forth bickering.

They have them, but they wont use them. See, if North Korea uses just one nuke, they've just screwed themselves over. They know that, so they just threaten to use them, and get what they want. If North Korea goes too far, then NATO's just gonna throw some bombs on it and the whole thing's gonna be over, and South Korea's gonna grow a bit. Most likely though, they're just gonna go back to a standstill...

It's not whether they have them or not, it's what they are using them for. As I said before, they have built their nuclear program entirely for the purpose of refocusing the world's attention and a means of trading disarmament for economic support. Contrary to popular belief, NK is EXTREMELY poor and they know their communist system has failed (what communist system hasn't?).
The N.Korean military commissioners are retarded in the face...but they ain't THAT dumb. They know that the United States and other members of the United Nations have economic and political interests in S.Korea (not to mention the thousands of American soldiers and civilians living in the region) and that they won't hesitate to step in and retaliate if their interests are at risk. China is the only nation in any way allied to them, but even they would cut all alliances with the North if they were to initiate a widespread campaign, leaving NK to fend for themselves against a world that's pisses as f*ck at em.
You have to remember that the N.Korean military is extremely fanatical. They are bred thinking that everyone else is sub-human. The artillery campaign very well could have been unplanned...that it was just a bunch of N.Korean gunners fresh to the lines or an overzealous CO that wanted to have a part in destroying the S.Korean scum...who jumped the gun and opened fire without higher orders.

A lot of countries, especially N. Korea is mostly propaganda. I believe somewhere around this site we have a video that they made.

That would be China, my friend. For some strange reason that none of us will understand, their economic situation has improved since they became communist. Now, I personally think this has to do with the extremely cheap items they seem to be capable of making and then selling with a large turnaround.
But, just because one nation figures out the single trick to making communism work, doesn't make the system a good one. The US is still years ahead of China in every aspect.

A part of China is Capitalist, but in all technicality, china is still controlled by the communist party. But within Communist china, you will see a lot of capitalistic practices, which have grown since the late 70s, and is in part responsible for their economic growth.

Economically, China is very successful (at least, the centralized economic core is)...but politically, its wrought with corruption and power struggle. China's economic achievements are due solely to the gradual shift to capitalism. I see what you're saying though.
If we're going to get real here...none of these "communist" nations (ie: China, N.Korea, Vietnam, Cuba?) are truly communist anyway. Stateless? Classless? Mutual ownership? Bullsh1t! hahahahha, "Communism" in these countries has only lead to further social stratification.

Check out the video on this BBC page...frickin intense. You see people running and artillery rounds going off all around them. It's interesting to see the relatively small explosions that result...I always just figured artillery rounds had bigger blast radius's.
