| Life is not going to come crashing down. I've lived through a government shut down once before and it only sucks if you want to go to like a museum or state park. | |

| No there's not. The police and military will to be operational and i can't remember any anarchy happening last time. The only people who may get pissed off are those government workers who haave no job for a little while. I doubt we'll even notice the government going offline lol. | |

| I hear Anonymous is going to be taking advantage of the lower number of security advisers on call and will launching attacks against government networks over the handling of Bradley Manning. Oh and missile codes will be released. And we're all gunna die. And your food is slowly becoming radiated.
Everyone run! 2012!!!

In all reality though, this shutdown will be much worse then any we've had before. Especially if it lasts more then a week...because that's the point where soldiers stop getting paid and the non-essential workers start getting cut for good.
It's sad that we're in that much of a hole that we have to shut down the government for days on end to save money.

| Government shutdown doesn't mean that they are going to abandon us and move to Bermuda. It just means they're gonna stop providing "non-essential" services.
I heard there were WMDs in Iraq. I heard the government bombed the WTC. True? Not necessarily.

Yes and no. The non-essentials close up shop during these things. You won't notice anything changing as long as it doesn't last for more then a week or two. After that, government workers who were deemed "non-essential" will start losing their jobs and we'll have some issues on our hands.

Im hoping that there are some layoffs for non-essential gov employees. Frankly, we need less, and we also need to disband social security.

It's sad that we're in that much of a hole that we have to shut down the government for days on end to save money. actually the government shutdown has already more or less been in affect. my friend in the marine corps hasn't received pay for the past 3 months due to all the BS... so in a sense it's already been going on for sometime. and the shutdown will affect my family directly.... because my dad is in the military.

Or the grannies walking to grab their benefits? Oh well ya see, we would be in a better place! I want to say this, if we lose some gov jobs, that's fine an dandy. Does everyone realize that the government cannot create meaningful jobs? It might be able to employ people, but do those people put money back into the economy? Do they do buisness throughout the nation, bringing in more money to the economy? Or do they do their job, get major benefits that come from tax dollars, and that job doesnt produce for the economy? Small buisness, farmers, oil, etc. those things all bring in natural revenue, that can in turn be given into the economy, and eventually given through taxes to the government employees. When social security was first introduced it was gonna be great, but then there was a population boom, putting more stress (unbearable stress) upon the taxpayers. The government can\'t bring in its own money, unless they print, which will make the dollar collapse. Look, I understand it sounds all fine and dandy, and it sounds idealistic, but thats just what it is. IDEALISM. I have a high moral code, but why should you force me to pay for someone else? WHY I'll donate to what I want and if I want. Now, I'm gonna go to a teaparty, and try to restore the nation to what it was before idealism and materialism took over this nation.

Sooooo we should just stop thinking about better ways to do things because our forefathers had it right in 1776 with all their slave pals and dead indians? Our country was supposedly built on the basis that it allowed change and progress, growth and diversity, new ideas and acceptance, 'amendability' if you will. Yet people are still saying that we need to keep things as they were, because that's the "good ol' American right way" of doing things. BTW idealism and materialism are pretty much polar opposites so I really don't know what you're trying to say.

Slave pals and dead indians? wow I don\'t want to keep it as it was in 1776, but I do want to keep the same morals the united states has up untill the 1900's It's not about keeping it the same, it's about doing what the founding fathers would have done. Even then, the more isolationist founding fathers, I believe, were wrong. Would the founding fathers raise taxes? Seems like the "far left" are. Look at it this way, who you vote for, will directly affect me. Would you want me to have to pay higher taxes, that I cannot afford? I would never get to be successful. It would really dampen my life. Not just me, other people too. The people in power at the moment are not doing what is right, instead they continue to spend spend spend. And then where are they gonna get the money? Oh, you know, from us.

If the protests in Madison were still going on, I'd put one there, yes I know state versus federal are two differing stories, but its the same things happening there, and here
