Anyone else think this is cool (and unsafe?)

I was about to go into a rant of how dare someone convert a classic 98k into a wimpy airsoft gun. But now that is absolutely brilliant! 8mm BB's would work perfectly since the gun is its self a 7.92mm.

yea i think its a waste of a gun and a collectable, i want to know what the accuracy and fps is but its a cool idea

It's not a waste. From the look of things they're just using the brass with the round and main charge removed. That means the BB is being propelled by the primer which i guess could propel a BB to a decent speed. It's shooting at 4 joules which is roughly 600 +-50 or so FPS with a .2 BB i think so... An 8mm BB with a .45g weight at 4 Jules is about 440 FPS. Accuracy shouldn't be to bad since the size of the barrel to the BB is very close and the length of the barrel will help greatly.

A 7.92x57mm round is a fairly big round and packs quite a bit of power so yeah it's doubtful the BB would make it out the barrel in one piece with a full charge. For an example a 7.92x57mm with an 12.8g slug travels about 2,600 FPS and has a Joule comparison of a little over 3,000 J.
