| Hello everyone, so me and a few buddies from work decided we were going to get into a new hobby, which our wives were thrilled to hear, and we thought that airsoft would be rewarding and fun and not as expensive as paintball, for those of us with kids. I have always liked the sniper role in paintball and other games so I thought I would give it a try here. I have been browsing the forums and reading up as much as I can. I have a few questions and would ask for some expert advice on entry level guns. So far i am looking at the following, like I said, I am on a budget and we are not going to be competing, at least anytime soon. M14 Spring Airsoft Gun Sniper Rifle http://www.speedytoys.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=1237Cheap and seems to have good reviews but i have not been able to find out alot about this gun. AGM MP-001 Sniper (BLK) M700 Style Spring Power Sniper http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=270&products_id=1898A little more expensive but seems to be better than the above. I have read though that AGM guns were not all they are cracked up to be. AGM VSR10 Spring Airsoft Sniper Rifle http://www.airsplat.com/Items/AR-AGM-VSR-001B.htmSame price as the one above but seems to be abit better. I plan on getting as cheap a sniper as i can that i can do the most with. I have seen that the Bar10 is a great gun with alot of mods but at the moment it is just out of my price range. I am a father of four with a wife that works and goes to school. this is purely a weekend once a month thing with the guys from work, at least for now, never know what the future may bring. My idea was to get a decent low end sniper and a cheap sidearm for the up close and personal encounters. Advice? Suggestions? Thanks for any help that is provided. | |

| for CQB get yourself a nice galaxy MP5K. or UTG M3 shotgun.
Now I am going to reccomend that airsoft is a different animal. you may be better off starting with a AEG (automatic electric gun) than a sniper rifle. As for the price range. Its not bad and i can understand setting that. Just to forewarn you most guns within these price ranges turn out being pieces of crap when it comes to duration. (std wear and tear)
What I would reccomend doing is looking into finding some other near-by groups. get a feel for how the guns function. as for any technical questions or tactical advice were here.
Welcome to the forums!!!

| Thanks for the advice. Yeah i figured i would be getting something that would not last too long but that would get me a feel for the game before getting too much into it. Actually, my friends and I are going to the local Army base in the morning to a range they have their to try out some guns to get an idea of what we want to do etc.. Speaking of an AEG, i did find this. BE AUG Styer Sniper Airsoft Rifle M8 http://www.hitguns.com/BE-AUG-Styer-Sniper-Airsoft-Rifle-M8-p/be-m8.htmNow the review on the site isn't very good but i did a little digging and it seems like an ok beginner rifle. Thanks again for the advice and glad to be hear. | |

| No problem. i don't get paid um a little suggestion though about websites. even some websites are not going to be the most accurate. The extremes which should be avoided are www.hobbytron.comwww.mrairsoft.comwww.speedytoys.comThey seem to have no clue what they are selling | |

| Hello Kalyander
The VSR is probably your best bet as an entry level Airsoft `` Spring´´ sniper rifle, the performance is quite nice and later when it comes to tuning this gun, it is work intensive but the resutls are definatly worth it. Just keep in mind, Sniping is fun, but most players are not cut out to be Snipers, it is alot of hard work.

| I would NOT recommend the MP001. Firstly, sometimes if you cock it and shoot it, it doesn't fire. Secondly, when I bought it, it was really innacurate and couldn't hit a coke can from 50ft away. Thirdly, if you ARE going to buy I would recommend the wood version due to the black version more likely to have problems with it. Like Lone Wolf said, start with an AEG then work your way to being a sniper. If I were you I would get the AGM Vsr10. | |

Dang. By the way did you get a scope and bi-pod with it? It took me 6 months to find scopes that fitted the gun. It was real scope rings. Haven't found a way yet to make a bi-pod on it but I'm still looking. If you want a silencer on the Mp001 you just take off the tip of the stock(the orange thing) and fill the space in the inside with foam. I don't know what kind of foam though due to an unreliable source.

| Ya the vsr would be your best bet out of those three. A spring sniper rifle would probblay be cheaper to start out with as cost is a factor. If you do want to get an aeg you will probblay want to get a smart charger so you don't break you're battery which would run you 30$ extra. O and by the way stay away from the super 9. | |

| You would have to get the bipod by agm to fit the gun, but any 1 inch scope ring will fit the rail. | |

| OK, first i want to say thanks for all of the advice. Second, my buddies and I were able to shoot a variety of weapons to try them out. We shot a SAW, a M14, a L96 and a few handguns and other weapons that I cannot recall now. So now i have new questions. I liked the L96 alot and have been looking around and noticed a favorite among alot of people was the L96 or the Bar10. My understanding is the L96 stock is better than the Bar10 but the Bar10 is easier to upgrade and once done so can be better than the L96. I have decided that i really do want to be a sniper so i am going to be having a garage sell to raise the money to get the rifle that i want rather than settle for something i do not. One of my buddies ordered the L96, which i do like the looks of, but i do not want to get the same gun he did. I was looking at the GSpec Bar10 here http://www.hitguns.com/JG-BAR-10-G-Spec-w-Silencer-Airsoft-Sniper-Rifle-p/jg-367a-bar10-g-scope.htmI have heard that the Gspec though has a lower velocity and really is not a better rifle. I have another buddy that is thinking of getting the AGM M14 http://www.hitguns.com/AGM-M14-Airsoft-Electric-Sniper-Rifle-MP008-BLACK-p/agm-mp008-blk.htmwhich we got to fire and was very accurate. his argument was that if he can hit me from 150 feet away then the sniper rifle will not be worth it. I tried explaining to him that if i get the rifle i want that i would be able to hit him from farther away than he could hit me with his M14. Also, my understanding of the Gspec BAR 10 is that the suppressor is just for looks and that there is a mod, i think i remember seeing one, to actually turn it into a real suppressor with a little creativity. Any comments are appreciated. | |

| You definately want an AEG as your first weapon. Just to learn the game and because it's easy to maintain and mods are easily available, I'd suggest a standard JG M4A1

| Ya airsoft is alot easier to start off with an aeg. If you are set on getting a sniper though the L-96 would be alot easier to start with and comes with a scope and bi-pod. | |
