| I read in a few other posts that people "lube" their guns with sillicon. What exactly does this do, and how do you do it? | |

| So just take it apart, lube it and put it back together? I don't see how that increases accuracy | |

| You lube the barrel not the gear box.
silicone grease is what you use in the gearbox when you take it apart you have to remove all of the old oil and grime then re-lube it.
In this case you only need to lube the barrel and hop up.
Any kind of inconsistency in the barrel or hop up like dirt will make your shots very inaccurate. trust me Ive gone a few times w/o cleaning it before

| Do i just take the barrel out and clean it? Or can i get some sillicon and put it on a cloth and use my cleaning rod to apply it to the inside of the barrel? | |

| If you have a bolt action gun it also helps a little to lube the bolt. Just put a little on and wipe off the excess with a cloth. | |

| I use a kind of silicon spray that you can find in a mechanics store or a hardware store. It works preaty well I use it every 1000-2000 shots. | |

| Not to be rude to the other posters but please totally disregard that. NEVER put any kind of grease or oil in your barrel. It can cause corrosion of the hop unit attached to the barrel and can obstruct the barrel, lets grime cling to it and can make your shots totally inconsistent.
To clean the barrel, just use a cloth (you can use silicone SPRAY on the cloth (a very small amount) however.)
Silicone grease is best used to coat the parts in your cylinder that touch the inner wall of the cylinder (the piston and the end of the spring guide (not!!! the spring) and a thin smear on the outside of the cylinder will make cocking smoother as well.
(i'm refering to bolt action rifles here)

| The Jim hit it right,
If you spray any Oils or Greases down your barrel you will ruin the Hop-Up Buckling !! WD40, 3in1 oil, Cosmolite, are all petroleum based oils, Petroleum products just LOVE the soft rubber buckling and nubbing. In a very short time the Buckling will start to break down and come appart, this also goes for the Silicon and Teflon insulated wiring inside the gun.
A soft cloth patch, with a light coating of Silicon spray ( Minimal amount ) turned down the barrel will clean it and protect it just fine. Never use any kind of Cleaning Brush, in your Barrel.

| i use my silicon lube in the barrel and it works great... my lube says that you can put it on any part of the gun and it would not hurt it... | |

| I wouldn't advise putting silicone grease on your gears either... It's not a metal to metal lube, your gear box could over heat. Fine on metal to plastic, wood etc. It has been talked up on various sites without anyone knowing exactly how bad it actually is if used incorrectly. "Silicone Gun Oil 35" - The last line written on the back of the can reads "Do not use as a metal to metal lubricant" Like everyone said in the posts above, A small drop on a cloth run through the barrel is fine. | |

| Actually there are Silicon Greases designed for the use of Metal to Metal contact, along with Heat resistant uses. All most all the Gear Greases provided by G&P, G&G, SYSTEMA and so on..., are Silicon Based to include the Oils that they sell. | |
