here you go. this was in the other thread, but no one answered, so, with the copy-and-paste powers vested in me, here it is.

when Barrett Arms designed the M82 Barrett Light .50 Anti-materiel rifle, it was outfitted with the Unertl 10x rifle scope. the rifle, which is designed to be accurate up to 2000 yards, is actually only accurate up to 1800 yards, when used by the average Marine marksman. now you get to explain why.

If the sniper is shooting at (1760 yards = 1 mile) or more, then everything comes in to play. Humidity, elevation, temperature, wind, spin drift, and even the coriolis effect. thats what i think the answer is....... to challenging with the environment.

it is not environmental factors i am talking about. think more. it's a two part answer.

The AVERAGE Marine can't hold steady enough to be accurate at that range. That's my best guess.

About the Barrett M82(or M107...). The standard solid core round does not have enough powder too maintain super sonic flight after 1800 meters...

Jarhead, The marines do have Mad Skizzles when it comes to shooting. Its just that the slightest twitch by the shooter could throw the round off by ten feet or more at that distance.

Well if you mentioned a 10x scope, I'd say it comes into play somehow.

Most likely the 10x scope isn't powerful enough to extend out to 2000 yards accurately. At distances that far the target becomes so small that it is completely covered by the crosshairs, thus giving the sniper no idea where exactly the round will reach out to at that distance.

They do say that in COD4 though.

YES! the Unertl 10x scope was designed for the M40A1 rifle and the M40A1 rifle only. the Barrett M82 needed to be put in the field for the upcoming operations in the Persian Gulf in 1991, and the best optics the Marine armorers had at their disposal were the Unertl 10x scopes. so they outfitted the Barretts with Unertls and sent them to the Gulf.

i was talking about a Marine Sharpshooter. Marine Sharpshooters are some of the most highly trained shooters in the world. i wasn't talking about your run-of-the-mill line platoon Marine, i am talking about Marines who are hand-picked because of their accuracy
ratings, endurance, so on and so on. the kind of guys who mentally beat themselves up because they missed a shot on the range.

it replaced the BTR-152 it holds 3-14 passengers, 3 are mandatory, the commander, gunner, and driver, the rest are the men being transported.
