Official "SHTF" Planning Thread

NOTE TO ADMINISTRATION/MODERATORS: This thread is in no way an attempt at "stealing" members or persuading them to move elsewhere within the airsoft community while the Airsoft Allies home forum is in service, nor do any of our opinions/plans represent that of the administration/moderator staff. Any discrepancies or concerns should be immediately brought to the attention of the forum via this thread. --SPL. DURKEE

Fellow airsofters,

The purpose of this thread is to bring the collective Airsoft Allies membership to an agreement on "aftermath" procedures following the likely, if not imminent, loss of service for the Airsoft Allies domain. Though Admin appears to have been paying the bills lately (out of his own pockets or through ad revenue), it is not within any of our knowledge how long this will last. Any "official" agreed-upon points will be added to this post to mark it's collective acceptance into the "SHTF" contingency plan in accordance with the following goals:

Primary Goals:
---Create methods for "core members" to maintain contact/communication
---Create/maintain an alternative temporary forum space to serve as a "bomb shelter" and base of operations for an Airsoft Allies recovery operation

Secondary Goals:
---Archive useful/rare information threads so they are not lost if service is lost
---Maintain and aid the growth of this domain's membership (ie: recruit, advertise, share, etc...)

I'll archive anything. just send the links and I'll get to work as long as my PC doesn't crap out on me I'll have em!

OH NO AA IS FALLING!?!?! JK but it is definitely good for us to have a backup.

I can help with the recruitment..of new, wholesome, members..

What will the alt domain name be... Will it be an archive only or will it include a forum to continue on posting...

How will the "core members" maintain contact with eachother when the "SHTF"?

This is just amazing how bored we are and that we actually NEED to do this lol....

An alternate forum entirely, with open boards for posting, etc. Possibly even something for long-term use...as in...where we go when this is dead.

I will be fun... But right now its just a plan..not going into action until needed of course..

Who do we think are these "core members"...(they are fairly obvious but I like to see lists)

I can archive all stickies into txt files and stay with durkee through fb as itseems he would host the shtf forum. Let me know what ones to and not archive.

I just had a thought....Could this be an Exclusive Membership Only site? Only for the dedicated ones? Just a thought!

It can be. I mean, we wouldn't let EVERYONE into the bomb shelter. Only the people that would be vital to the reconstruction of civilization (airsoft allies )
Starting price for private tickets into the bomb shelter start at $6000.

If Admin decides to quit paying, he would probably be kind enough to move the entire site to a free URL. This site was started on a free forumotion.com URL, but I think he had to start paying when he wanted to make it its own domain instead of "example.forumotion.com". It started free, it can go back. I hope.

If the S really does HTF, we can host on a forumotion.com site. I'd be happy to help.

Yeah that was my initial thought. But we really have absolutely no way of knowing if it will happen automatically or if he does it manually (or not at all). That was the general purpose behind the secondary goals, in that we need to build up THIS site as much as we can. Bring in new members, get some legit discussion going...so if he does have to make the decision to pay/revert it to a free site or just cut it off entirely because it's failing, maybe he'll have more reason to choose one the first.

Totally agree on the forumotion site. That would make a great starting point. From there, if we wanted I could easily pay for a domain and hosting...or get a pot together to raise funding. All of this is speculative, of course. None of us know what is happening or what will happen unless someone somehow made contact with Admin.

I for one know I'm not gonna be paying sh¡t. But I will gladly entertain myself by participating in this tomfoolery.

I think this is kinda obvious but...contacting Admin should be the first priority!.....concur?

No but ya seriously, probably should drop him a few emails to see if he's still alive. In the past I haven't gotten responses though.

Well the mods that he plays with should be able to contact him...

That's the problem, you are just being a bully to everyone who is new, You're just as bad as an internet bully. Seriously.

They come to this forum to get info and help, and i wouldn't be surprised if the SHTF because there are no new members who really want to stay because people tell them they should look it up on google or tell them to GTFO in nicer ways.

The Sh*t will hit the fan if all of the bad attitudes keep up.

Back on topic: If the Sh*t does hit the fan, most of you have my facebook. so we could probably either

A. set up our own forum
or
B. use that facebook group we created.

I just want to reiterate that if a new forum was created, the ACTIVE moderators for this domain will be given mod rights in addition to other new mods.

The reason this is failing is because we have no Admin. We can\'t create new categories or new rules or change the site layout. For those reasons. AA is falling behind in the forum game because we have nothing unique to provide to new members. Sites like this need to be constantly evolving to meet the needs of airsofters and chairsofters.

I haven't seen much change in the other forums i am on. AA just doesn't have as many active members as other forums.

The very reason why I joined this forum is because my last one (Airsoft51.com) suddenly shut down for no apparent reason. As far as I know, not one notice of the site's demise was ever reported to its members. Literally, the day before I was making posts, and 24 hours later I tried to access the site but was getting a "404 Not Found" error message. It wasn't until 6 months later that I found out the Admin couldn't pay the bills, and just one day decided to drop the site immediately.
Having that experience, It is a very real possibility in this current situation, especially if AA's Admin isn't responding.

While I had to edit your post NN2H, I have to agree. Our forum flourished when we helped people and actually cared about AS...like most of our CORE members still do. But now when there's a new post in the new members section, we either
A. jump on them for being a nOOb
or
B. scare them away by talking about wierd window strippers and all that crap. It honestley just makes the whole place look like a two-bit operation, like were just 14 guys sitting in our own little corner of the internet goofing off...
LETS CHANGE THIS. I'm going to be a little more harsh to even the core members now by handing out small bans, ranging from a day to a week if I really feel its neccesary. I hold myself back and give members I've known for a while exceptions but...I just can't anymore. People are taking advantage.

So for an example...while I AGREE, NN2H, your post would be considered flamming. Posts like this simply cannot happen anymore.


And just for the record, I would be glad to help Moderate any forum that branches from this one, as I've been a loyale member to this forum for so long I'd have to help the effort of whatever comes after this, if something unfortunately does.
