PostSubject: Player Archetypes?   Player Archetypes? Icon_minitimeMon Aug 31, 2009 12:47 pm

As I play, I'm noticing some trends in my fellow players.

we have one player who moves quickly, disregarding stealth for faster movement. he's the sort of player who "prefers a straight fight to all this sneaking around", and though he dies fairly often, he's good at keeping the enemy's heads down. His dream setup is a Chicago Typewriter style Thompson with drum mags and lots of inexpensive .20 grams. He's eying the well MP7 as a sidearm, and currently uses an inexpensive Steyr AUG. It goes without saying that he likes to shoot.

And then on the other end of the spectrum, you have players like me who don't mind waiting 30 to 45 minutes to actively engage the enemy (and even then, I may break contact if I perceive that it might be beneficial). I'm not equipped with a sniper, I use A JG AUG A3, but I've been told by the other players that I'm somewhat of a phantom on the battlefield. I might end up going down the sniper road, but I don't think I'd go any further than semi-automatic, I like to be able to put heads down even after I've been spotted.

what words do you guys use to describe these distinct traits? also, has anyone else noticed other playing styles?

an addition to this topic could be noticing UNIQUE types of peoples styles of play. like the Hybrid-The fast moving rifleman that has the tendancy to take longrange accurate shots then scoot to a better location then radios for the team.

High-speed, low drag eh? Smile Seems to be the style out here in California for most players.

Its an effective playing style if used correctly and the player keeps a level head, but I still prefer the thought-out, room-by-room, squad-based methods. It keeps outs (not "deaths") at a minimum and requires strategic play, which is one of my favorite aspects of airsoft: strategy.

Heres my list of unique roles and styles that I've seen over the years:

-Run-N-Gun: Described by Jaeman, effective in some situations.

-Team Player: Relies on squad maneuvers to score hits, always a good call.

-Sniper: Pertaining to, but not limited to a marksman armed with a "sniper's rifle". Anyone who chooses stealth, patience, and precision targeting over the latter described styles.

-Tank: A player that uses sheer firepower and suppressive rounds to keep OPFOR head's down. Pertaining to, but not limited to a squad-automatic-gunner. Any high-ROF player.

-Lazy: Almost identical to "Run-N-Gun" type players, expect these guys don't run...or gun...or do anything else for that matter. In fact, sometimes they quit playing after one game because they're winded. Hmmm, McDonald's anyone?

-Cheaters: *Douchebags* that shouldnt be playing airsoft because they know nothing of honor or integrity. Pertaining to, but not limited to little kids with only $25 springers wearing sweatshirts to full length day-night mil-sim operations.

This has been another edition of "Words of Wisdom", brought to you by Spl. Durkee.

I would divide these a bit differently.

Ambush type:
Sniper: long range, stealth, usually slow moving.
Assault: short to medium range, stealth, fast moving when they move.
Ninja: uses traps and tap-outs, very skilled in stealth, moves fast or slow as necessary

Squad type:
Rifleman: medium range, overt, moves with his squad
Grenadier: short-medium range, has things other than just a gun, overt, moves with his squad
Machine Gunner: high-rof AEG, suppressive roll, overt, moves with his squad
Designated Marksman: long range, overt, moves with his squad

Fail type:
Squad of One: any range, overt, moves slowly in the open (me, usually. trying to fix that)
Camper: short range, stealth, hides in an obscure corner where nobody goes past
Lazy: any range, overt, tries to move with a squad, but gives up
Tactical Fail: tries to push forward, but gets hit, doesn't know how to flank, doesn't know how to use stealth, doesn't know not to give away their position, doesn't know any commands or hand-signs, probably couldn't tell if their gun was dry-firing.
Not Ready for AS: cheap gun, cries/whines when hit, doesn't call hits unless they hurt, doesn't want to count them if they do hurt. Often also a Tactical Fail.

If don't get stuck to a pattern or certain style during the game that you are easily defined then you wil be easier to predict and defeat.
If you get a composite type soldier with all the good traits and can think on his feet and adapt his tactics accordingly then he will dominat, and when combined with a squad of similar teamates then they will PWN all.

OOH! I HAVE ONE THAT I SEE A LOT! The little retards who just slow you down and "Watch your language" you up. I am always getting stuck with the players who have never played so there will be one experience player on their team. They never listen to what you tell them to do and they cause you to lose because of their stupidity. I even try to teach them, but for ass-all result!
