| So I'm thinking about making a Vietnam-era sniper/DM loadout. It will be based off of the character Donny in the book "Time to Hunt" by Stephen Hunter, if anyone has read it. I'm aware it will take me well into 2011 to construct, but I'm up for it. Things I'll use:- CYMA M14 ('wood' finish) w/ mount + scope - Some sort of gas .45 - OD combat unis - OD cap - Black jungle boots Now I need help on finding some sort of ALICE/web gear or whatever they used, and anything else that would be useful/essential in the loadout. Thanks in advance - Mark | |

| I have a Load Bearing Vest, (LBV) weren't those and a flak jacket used then? if so a LBV is a great choice just a m14 mag might or might not fit in mag pouches | |

| Drummer, a good site to buy gear from and for reference is www.mooremilitaria.comIf you have any questions, PM me. I've studied up on the gear quite a bit, haha edit: My apoligies, Drummer, I just realized I gave you the wrong link. It is fixed now. Go to the section marked "Quartermaster" to see the gear. A nice little tidbit for you: These guys supplied all the uniforms and gear for the movie We Were Soldiers w/ Mel Gibson.

| Great, thanks Jarhead999! @Sniper_32 Got a link to where you got the LBV? Or was it from a local store..? ________________________ I've got a place where I can buy canteens and an entrenching tool if I feel I want one, and maybe a holster and pouches if I'm lucky. Keep the advice coming, please | |

| Unfortunately, they did not use LBVs in 'Nam. In fact, ALICE didn't see theatre use until '72-'73, and even then it was mostly with Army units.
Up until about the mid 80s, we used belt and suspender rigs. The LBV started showing up about '85 | |
