| Sounds a lot like our own government now if you ask me.
Like i said before i can understand how people can see that symbol as disrespectful. Consider this though. To say this symbol is disrespectful is like saying us as Americans, shouldn\'t wear shemagahs for airsoft, as a military application, or as a fashion piece since it's commonly worn by Middle East terrorists to the point it's almost the same as a symbol for. Or we shouldn't have anything to do with Soviet weapons whether for real shooting or airsoft because they have become symbols of the old USSR more so then the red star. That can also be again brought to bear with the Taliban and other terrorists. Now one thing that personally really bugs me is the flying of the rebel flag. I consider it insulting and disrespectful as an American now living in a United States of America. But no matter what i may think there are those who think it's perfectly ok, and that is what makes this country so great is that everyone has the freedom to express themselves and their opinions.
I will never fly or show the rebel flag but i also understand there are those who do not share my opinion or convictions. And that's ok because they have the right to think that way the same as i have the right to think another. In a way wearing something with the old red star shows the triumph of freedom over oppression because you do so. Sorry for the run on but enjoy topics like this.

| Again like I said, the Red Star is a direct symbol of the USSR and COMMUNISM! Ak-47's are NOT a DIRECT SYMBOL! shemagahs are NOT a DIRECT SYMBOL! Those are fine, they are not the "flag" of the despised thing! | |

| Don't mean to take sides, don't take it as that way, but when I think of the AK-47, I think of Ivan "rumbling through the Fulda Gap with more tanks than Godd". I also think of the numerous civil wars, genocides, and terrorist orgnaizations throughout the world. It's just what I see when I think of AK-47s. | |

| Over time they have become iconic to their areas of orgin. While shemagahs may not be on the same level yet I would say the AK-47 and RPG are symbols of the USSR that most people link to them over the red star. They've had more world impact as a direct symbol of the USSR then any red star. | |

| @iliveforthis99: +1 to other "acceptable" symbols +1 to your view on the rebel flag But what's wrong with Marxism? Putinism is the problem in my eyes. I don't like it when people who don't understand socialism rag on it (not necessarily the case here, I can't magically glean the full extent of everyones' knowledge).
Free country, wear what you want. Period. As a courtesy to others, try not to alarm or alienate anyone, but I see that as more of an option than a rule. Sometimes a person just wants to turn some heads and provoke some thought.
OH NOEZ ITZ A SYMBOL OF USSR! DIE EVIL RUSKIES! I'm sorry, but this seems like a somewhat ignorant view. Bear in mind, I'm moderate. Neither "communist" nor "fascist". There are good things about the extremes and good things about various middle grounds, but I digress.
I don't think I've taken a hard stance on this issue before, so I'll try one on now: As long as you're not intentionally impersonating a (green beret, russian, officer, what have you), it's OK in my book to wear symbols associated with them. You didn't earn them, no. They're vintage flair for your outfit. If someone doesn't like it: A; too bad, free country. B; if you're feeling empathetic, you'll sense when someone is glaring at you and remove it.

| Honostly I wouldnt be cought dead wearing a symbol of cummunism..only reason I would have it is as a historical collection..there is nothing good about communism..it sounds good on paper but in reality it doesnt work...no one works at potential if they get paid the same as everyone else so the products are "Watch your language".
Like others have said..to someone older...its like your kid wearing a symbol saying praise saddam or extremism.

| Guys, my grandmother bought me a distinctly Russian hat (that doesn't fit anymore) that had a couple pins with the Hammer/Sickle emblem, and no one really cared when I wore it in school. It's all a matter of opinion, and it's not like he's wearing a Swastika on his hat.
You could also argue that its the Red Army symbol.
+1 to Jarhead's opinion

No, don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Mikhail Kalashnikov. I'm a practical guy. If the world was ending tomorrow, I'd want an AK-47/74 to be one of the guns at my disposal. But the fact of the matter is, the AK-family has too many bad associations than good.

| Yeah theres a reason for it..the AK-47 is one of the best weapons in the world, not due to any amazing techonoligical advance, but becouse it is durable...there are very little moving parts so theres not much that can go wrong, due to this it is easy to maintain...ammunition is easily avialable.
and i bet im goingto get arguments about why its not the best. Ask any soldier and they will tell you its a good weapon..in fact during the Vietnam war everyone laughed at it as a shitty little weapon...but when the US'es "amazing" weapons didnt work in the jungle they went..hum..im gonna dump my rifle and take up a enemy combatants AK.
In my opinion the only weapon thats had a greater effect on the world then the AK-47 is Dr. Richard J. Gatling's invention...the gatling gun.

| Why bother fighting a war? For the ideals? For the questionable morals of the other side? For survival? Why bother, because unless you educate your young people in the wars that have bought them liberty, the next generation will return to the oppression it once knew! It's like when someone where a USSR symbol, the very symbol we feared for so long, and finally "caused" it's collapse! We finally "defeated" it and now it has returned in our young people! | |

| Aye..as the saying goes.."those who forget the history of the past are doomed to repeat it"
Doesnt mean you should hide it or try to put it in a dark corner...but don't go flaunting somthing like that.
