Subject: ATF withholds 30 potential assault rifles! Wed Mar 03, 2010 1:50 am
Just saw this on a FB airsoft group.
I found it kind of funny and sad at the same time. I mean is there really a chance an average person would be able to modify an airsoft gun into a real assault rifle? On the topic of the barrel tips not being orange that seemed a mistake on the manufactures part of shipping the wrong lot or forgetting to paint the tips.
Thoughts?

Wow. Yes, the shipper or manufacturer is in the wrong for not painting the tips. But WOW. that black ATF agent is an IDIOT. He bases his accusation on being able to convert these into a RS weapon on NO factual evidence. Sounds like ATF just can't admit they're wrong to me.

I forgot to that i'd love to see ATF's documentation on their so called tests on converting AS guns into "military grade weapons".

Well i wouldn't say it's impossible to convert them to shoot real bullets. With enough know how, tools, and parts i bet you could convert an airsoft gun into a real gun. Would it be military grade? No. Would it be safe (to the user)? Probably not. Would it be practical for say a criminal to do it? Not by a long shot.

Another case of `` AIRSOFT !!!, 6mm Plastic Death !! ´´
Somebody whipped it out, threw it on the floor and stomped all over it with golf cleats, and nobody wants to admit to the mistake.

If you're going to spend the money and time making an AS replica into an assault rifle, save yourself the time and stupidity and buy yourself a Rock River Arms. Jesus, what is the world coming to?

Seriously, you could buy an actual assault rifle and a kit to make it automatic and you'd spend less time, money, and effort than trying to convert an AS replica into even a single-shot firearm.

Actually ONE of the real steel sears can fit the GBBr's. But the others cannot fit by a long shot. And I don't believe the aluminum receive would hold up to the pressure of a .22, never mind a ,223....
Another great waste of our tax dollers. I think every ATF agent should be a gun owner and have atleast SOME knowledge of RS firearms.
The closest thing I've seen to a conversion is someone who put a .22 LR pistol into one of those BE G36's. Mind you, this was only placing it inside, NOT modifying the replica to shoot real rounds.

There are no AS Replicas currently on the market that can be modified to be real steel, being able to fit a 22 LR into the outer barrel is no stretch, being able to fire it without the darn thing blowing up in your face is quite another.
Since most of the bodies and outer barrels are Magnesium/Aluminium Alloy, it is highly unlikly that they would be able to withstand the Blowback/Recoil without injuring the shooter, regardless if it is a bolt action or gas operated gun, the recoil alone would rip the bolt out of the chamber and depending on the size of the round, somebody is going to be eating metal.
Like I said before, ATF dropped the ball here, and is now trying to save face, which of course they will, just have to fall back on the good old reliable `` Patriot Act´´, everything is allowed in the name of `` Country Protection ´´.

first time watching it, first it was manufactures mistake to forget orange tip. Number two if you did convert it into a RS then like said in the video the gun would explode in your face, if it didn't explode after 3 shots the plastic would be melted down and burning you. stupid people lets blow ATF up
