| Well, our friend White Wolf got me thinking about my eyes again.
I have some questions:
1) My contact presciptions are -4.75 for my left eye, and -5.75 in my right eye (I wear contact lenses). What am I on the 20/whatever scale? 2) Would the US Navy care if I've had corrective surgery prior to serving (says "20/20 corrected", but doesnt that juts mean corrected by wearing glasses?) 3) Know anyone that's had Lasik or other corrective surgery? I'd love to hear some stories. Once I turn 18, I'll likely have that done.
Thanks all. | |

| My cousin had astigmatism and some other problems, spent years wearing glasses & contacts, then couldn't wear contacts due to another problem that came up. Then he had laser surgery and no more problems | |

| I have a very strong prescription and I will be getting corrective surgery ASAP. I cannot stand wearing glasses or contacts every day. | |

Ya...thats where I'm at now. I'm sick of being held back because of my eyesight. I wear contacts primarily...I don't even own glasses right now, actually. At this rate, I'll probably pay more on contacts in the next 10 years than Lasik would cost...so its worth it, I think. If I can get low-cost/free ride schoolng from the Navy, I'll just have my parets put my college fuds money towards surgery. Kinda at a point where I'm frustrated as heck and worried I wont have the same opportunities because of my eyes... I'm starting to see that the world I want to be apart of requires that I can see 10 feet in front of me.

| Yep. I hear you that is a fact. I can use my monitor without glasses. I can read without glasses. Thank Don't use the Lord's name in vain. I'm only nearsighted with no serious bi-focal complication. Lasik is becoming a real standard procedure in my city, Atlanta/GA. The average success rate is in the high 90 percentile. Whats not to lose? I have proven my nerve in the operating room before, not like I'm going to flip out when they are drilling into my cornea then cutting away my dead cells with lazors. Anyway I think it is worth. I know several people that have had it done and they are really happy with the results. | |

| That 10% complication rate is what kills me. I've had surgeries before for various things, but never something with odds like that.
Hopefully by the time I'm under the knife/laser/whatever, that 90% will be a bit closer to 100%.

| My eyesight is 20/15 and have no blind-spots (most people have them apparently?- this is according to me doctor), but my whole family is effected by very bad eyesight, and lasik seems great, but there are some risks to it that need to be considered. | |

| I have 20/25 vision, but I believe it's because during the school eye exam (required of all 10th graders) I practically slapped myself in the face when told to cover up one eye. | |

| I don't really know what my vision is, but on the side of my glasses it says "49 [ ] 19" whatever that means...
I'm pretty nearsighted and I actually got worse since the last time I got a new prescription.

| I actually don't mind wearing glasses, it's just the stereotypes that follow.
People: "Mark, you look smart with those glasses!" Me: "How do glasses make me smart, I can't SEE."
People: "You're a NERD!"
Teachers: "Mark, you're smart, come over here and fix this computer." Me: "Umm... Control - Alt- Delete? Oh, it's a Mac. I dunno, ask the IT guy."
Old people: "Can you read this label? It's just too small for me!" Me: "Uh. Sure..."
