| OK firstly I would like to introduce myself name is Zane. Ok so I recently became seriously interested in air soft and was interested in becoming a sniper. However since the team I am joining already have snipers I decided upon a role as rifleman/support/anti sniper. Now I decided upon the ECHO1 M14 EBR RIS. So I was wondering..is this the right rifle for me?(the weight wont be a problem) And secondly what upgrades should I look into? Also any tactics advice would be much appreciated. ah and on a side note should I get a sidearm? Now as for my experience I don't have much in the air soft world but I am rated a expert marksman (JROTC standards)
Thanks, Zane
(if this needs to be moved to weapon choice please do..I felt it was more with the newbie advice tho)

| My friend says the m14 is perfect for rifleman and sniper but for riflemen i think it would be best to have an electric"my opinion" | |

| The M14 is a AEG so it be electric ( and this will bring issues since I noticed a few here don't care much for AEGs in the roles I specified.) | |

| Ok a sniper rifle doesn't need to be an fully or semi automatic AEG because of the loud gear box and the constant fire one shot , pause , one shot , will wear a battery down faster than you can say " I wish I would have gotten a springer " . A great spring sniper rifle would have to be the JG-Bar 10 as reccommended many time on this site . I also would reccomend the UTG , Well , TSD , L-96 after you get more comfortable with your position as a sniper . But if you look at it from a rifleman's stand point than may I reccommend the M1 Garand , green gas , semi auto , and an great great great replicia to hang on your wall when not in use or just to shw to your friends off or on the battle field . I fear that my post is getting a little long so I ain't getting into it any farther , need help just ask or pm me , because I'll be glad to help .

| We haven't had Grenadiers since Nepolean , LOL . But you could be an Engineer , the guy who likes to make things go boom . Rocket Launchers , grenades , and home-made motars that will take out the enemy easily are right up his or her ally . | |

| I will not be a sniper those roles are already filled. What I was looking into was anti sniper and support. The rifle I am looking into seems able to serve in both roles. ( By support I mean rifleman providing covering fire and such) Maybe im a complete nub here if so please tell me. And as role in anti sniper..any advice on how to go about this.. | |

| No you were actually pretty right as far as gun choice vs role. I still can't find a store that has them in stock though. The E1 EBR uses a M16 inner barrel(20in vs the real 18in barrel), so you have some accuracy there. The EBR also uses E1's M14 Hop-Up(I don't know if you have read about this, if not just ask about it) which is actually arguably the best hop-up out there. The mags are a little hard to find at some stores, but with a little looking you can always find good deals on em. My favorite store to order from: http://www.airsoftsmith.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=25_40_62&products_id=816Really any m14 variant is a solid bet if you want to be a counter sniper or DM. I think if you are doing more support than DMing or counter sniping then I would look into a SAW or G36 full length. The M14 is a great gun don't get me wrong, but it wasn't built to be a support gun(well the airsoft version wasn't). You could put down some suppressive fire with it but I wouldn't walk out onto the field expecting to lay cover fire for your whole side. I would also invest in an aftermarket Battery because the ones that come with the guns usually suck. I would seriously recommend a Smart charger with that. I takes all the hassle out of charging a battery and you get a bigger charge with them than you do with the wall chargers that come with the gun. If your shooting in the 350FPS area a sidearm is really not necessary unless your using a bolt action weapon. Plus if you do run into a situation where you want to use a sidearm you have to either spend a good 2-3 secs loading the gun(which is pretty noisy with those velcro holsters), or you have to drop $60-$100 on a Sepra holster(or any conceal carry holster) so you can have your mag in you backup. sticks | |

| As for training as an anti-sniper , take up so time learning from the snipers and spotters in your team and learn the strategies that they use , then use it against them . | |

| DM=Designated Marksmen. Its a synonym for squad marksman etc etc.
As Alabama Sniper said lean tactics that the snipers use in you team. A good way to find a ghillied sniper is to look for plants where the green (or brown) is lighter then the surrounding plants. Another way to look for a ghillied sniper is looking for bushes that are a little to big, or even ground cover that is over 6in tall.
Really I'm guessing that you'll be DMing more then counter sniping. Both are extremely fun and there definitely something to brag about.
good luck with the gun!

| heh thanks for sharing..besides..technically a anti sniper has to be a sniper as well..know what the sniper will be doing and all that..plus having to shoot a sniper would take some skill since a good sniper will not let people get to close to him. soo think of me as a fellow sniper trying to defend my team | |

| Most anti snipers are former spotters or snipers might I suggest you try a spotting role for a war or two before you try anti sniping . | |

| Well I would go for a boom mic. If you want a good throat mic your looking at at least $400. A good boom mic is in the $100 range so I think you'll find the pros outweigh the cons. As far as the 400FPS upgrades go you can do alot. But with the money that is needed for the Echo 1 you could just get a higher end gun and drop a spring/spring guide in it. Upgrades for the Echo 1 EBR: Base Gun(if found): $180 Systema Magnum motor: $80 Systema Gears: $80 Systema shims: $15 Systema Spring guide: $15 Systema M120: $15 Upgrades for a CA M14: Base Gun: $250 Systema Spring guide: $15 PDI 170% spring: $15 Totals: E1: $385+tax CA: $280+tax IMO the CA is a much better build quality, and when you factor in all the extra stuff that you need for a DMR the CA is still cheaper. I got my prices from: http://www.airsoftsmith.com/Most of the prices are rounded so the math was easier, the variance between the rounded is no more than $20 on each gun. link to CA M14: http://www.airsoftsmith.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=21_22_37&products_id=984They also make a Walnut stock version and a Scout version with a 16in barrel. I know this is not the EBR version that you like but I don't think Echo 1 makes those anymore. Kart used to make an EBR but they either went out of business or they stopped making the EBR, i can't find the Kart anywhere not even overseas. KA makes an EBR stock kit but its in the $700 range. It sucks that you can't find one . sticks | |
