Twenty French jets were sent into Libya to enforce a no-fly zone and prevent attacks on rebels and civilians. They have also destroyed several Libyan military vehicles. 25 coalition ships are in the area of Tripoli. Forces committed to the support of the operation include France, UK, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Spain, Greece, Italy, Norway, Qatar, USA, and UAE. Possible additions may include Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Netherlands, and Sweden.

| Long range missiles already fired at 20 Libyan targets. We should have left it to the French and European Coalition. The US has no place in Libya. BTW...I don't think firing "more than 110 surface-to-SURFACE missiles" has anything to do with enforcing a no-FLY zone.
You know how they said gas was going to be $5 this summer? May have been an underestimate.

| Yeah I was pretending to be ignorant lol. I hope we don't get too involved and become the stereotypical US military "go in and get sh^t done" that we so often choose to be. Some Navy guy was saying that if the operation was to be completely effective, we would have to send ground forces to work in tandem with the rebels. :\ - Spl. Durkee wrote:

They are destroying early warning systems and anti-air defenses in order to effectively patrol the air without being shot down. Then they are going to fly in the no-fly zone and make sure no one flies

They are destroying early warning systems and anti-air defenses in order to effectively patrol the air without being shot down. Then they are going to fly in the no-fly zone and make sure no one flies We just made a multi-billion dollar investment in Libya by sending our Naval fleet and multiple AF squadrons there. There's no way we're not going to set up shop and stay for dinner. Wonder what celebrity they're going to be sending over there to entertain our entrenched service members this Christmas? As for the anti-air strikes by the US, do you really believe it should have happened? I don't see it. Rules of engagement should be "fire when fired upon" at all times. The French aircraft that destroyed an AA vehicle early this morning fired on it because it fired at him. The AA in place in Libya is, for lack of better words, primitive. They're outdated manual gun batteries. Unless somehow their purchase of guided missiles from Russia went down under the radar within the last 24 hours, our aircraft would be in very little danger of taking accurate fire from the ground. To use Alex's statement, this operation is in many ways like that in the early stages of Iraq...where our birds flew circles around their analog AA units while they blasted mindlessly into the sky.

| Yesterday, Obama was saying that military involvement would be limited. Now he's saying that we are prepared "contribute our unique abilities" and "be at the front of the operation". But he is stressing that ground troops will not be deployed. | |

Wow you are so right. I didn't even make that connection to his press conference yesterday. Just wait until one of our planes gets shot down or US citizens that remain in Libya (there are still many left!) are harmed. We'll have boots on the ground. Col Gaddafi just addressed the nation. Very short speech. Surprisingly short. Through a translator. Could he be dead already?

| At this point, we have every reason to be helping the Rebels out. But, knowing Obama, he wont put boots on the ground. And we're not going to lose an aircraft. We haven\'t lost an aircraft in Iraq or Afganistan (from what I know (Not counting heli's), so I don\'t think we're going to lose one to Libya (hahaha) | |

| What I want to hear is what the civies and rebels are having to say about all this... did they specifically ask for help in the first place? If the Libyans are literally crying out for US/foreign aid, then I suppose this is a good thing...but if not, I just think we should evac our US citizens from the area and buzz off...
The good old NATO way of doing business: don't like something? Bomb it off the face of this planet!
