It's called "The Pacific", and it is basically Band of Brothers, but, big surprise, in the Pacific Theater! AND JESUS TAP-DANCING CHRIST, LT. GENERAL LEWIS B. PULLER (a.k.a. Chesty) HAS A CHARACTER!
It's expected to come out March of 2010

Sweet! That was an awesome show! Great realism, great actors, great director, right down the line an excellent production. I just hope they can meet the standard they set with Band of Brothers.

I was watching Band of Brothers on Thanksgiving, and one of the first things I noticed was that the quality of the video is still practically HD, even though the series was filmed nearly 10 years ago. Of course, a lot of things were computer generated. For example, did you know the Bastogne episode was shot in an aircraft hangar, but with actual trees?

I had no idea. I would've thought it was filmed in a forrest. Some shows nowadays don't even have effects of that quality. This really shows you what a big budget can do for a series.

I know! I never would have thought of such a thing, either. It looked so real! But, it was fake snow and real trees! Also, you ever notice that in every town they assault/enter, whether it is Eindhoven, Foy, or Haganau, it always has that same three-story building with the dome-shaped roof? That's because they used a single fake village for every town. That fake village was actually in a field, though, not indoors.

I wonder if that fake village is still around and if so where it is? That would be great for airsoft.

It was in Britain, but I reckon the effects people blew it to "Watch your language" for fun, haha. But it would be AWESOME for urban fighting!

Glad to hear they're making a version for the Pacific. I grew up listening to my Grandfather's stories with the Marines on Saipan, Tinian, Guam, and Okinawa. Nothing like stories of roasting people out of spider holes with a flamethrower to hold a kid's attention.
Thought Eastwood did a pretty good job with Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima also.

The thing about the actual trees is not entirely true, Im not sure if some were real ( I can't remember) but many, especially toards the end if that episode were fake, so they would actually fall and stuff. Oh ya, and all the snow was made from like a paper stuff, but some of the falling snow was real. In the Making of Band of Brothers, they showed where they kept all the guns, They had RACKS of MG42s. Oh ya, and in the battle for Carrantan, they use a Pak-36. The funny thing is, my family owns a pak-36!!!! Its one of the top 5 best restored in the country. Oh ya and for those of you who don't believe me, heres the link to my dads re-enacting group with a picture of it. http://www.2ndpanzerdivision.com/vehicles1.htm . What i find a little funny though is that we may own the Pak-36, But my dads the loader on the Pak-40.

It better be! I lost count after watching the series some twenty times, all the way through. Everybody search it in the lounge; I created a poll a LOONNGG time ago to vote on which episode is your favorite, and just general discussion of the series. The Pacific....WILL. BE. EPIC.

I just found out about this in my Western Civ class last week. I almost started jumping around in glee like a little kid. Band of Brothers is awesome and one of my favorite war movie/series so i'm really liking the idea of this one. Only thing that sucks is i don't have HBO and this probably won't get posted to Hulu.

Just wait for it to come on Netflix or Blockbuster. That's what I'm going to do. It's just going to be "sofa king" hard to get it.

Excuse the double/necro post, the Pacific just started a couple of days ago! Just got around to watching the first episode, and it looks promising. I won't go so far as to say it seems better than Band of Brothers, but it still looks really good. Unfortunately, it does seem like it's going to be one of those "bleeding hearts" sort of things. But, what're you gonna do?
Have any of you guys watched it yet?
