| Hey everyone, I was thinking of constructing a simple Riot Shield.
(YEAHAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!)
Onto the making: Thinking of cutting a medium sized rectangle onto a piece of plywood and putting plexiglass on the open space. My only question are: Can I get all of this stuff (plexi n' plywood) at Lowes? And would it be stable.
Thanks | |

| Yes you can buy plexiglass at lowes. And if you layer the plexiglass and cover it with a wire mesh you'll be good. | |

| It will be stable as long as you construct it sufficiently. What do you plan on doing for the grips/wrist straps?
And if you plan on painting it, make sure you do it before you put the plexiglass on otherwise you might end up painting the plexiglass hehe.

| @Lone Wolf: Plexiglass isn't strong enough to withstand some BB's?
@Drummerboy: Crap.. forgot about that part, any ideas?

| You should be able to get everything you need at any hardware store.
If you make it check and see if you can use where you play and be prepared to tick people off by using it.

| I don't think you'd really need plexiglass. Maybe a few layers of plastic cut from soda bottles. For airsoft though, mobility and stealth have always served me better than any sort of shield or mobile cover. | |

| Hahah!
Anyway, for the straps, if you have a nail gun you could nail in a small leather strip with a buckle on it, and for the portion of the nail that sticks out you could just hammer that to the side so it's out of the way

| Drill a hole for a screw in the wood and the leather, where all four points of the straps will be. then screw in butterfly-knob bolts into all the holes and tighten fasten with a nut. Something like this:
Edit: ehh.. not working

| I think you're looking for more of a ballistic shield look...there is a difference.
-Ballistic shields: Protect against small caliber, blasts, and shrapnel. -Riot shields: Blunt impact (Riot control)
If you're taking a riot shield to a field it infers simulated physical contact...which is a no-no. If someone were to shoot it while you were behind it, it should still count as a kill. Typically made of hardened plastic or composites.
If you mean a ballistic shield...the I can understand what you're trying to do. Infers you are using it against simulated firearm assaults. Made from various ballistic materials.
Now, if you're making your own ballistic shield...you can use any metals really. A good way to start is in simple sheet metal. Locate a local machine shop and have someone help you cut it to your desired shape/size. Make sure to cut a small window for visibility and use plexiglas or plastic for that portion. As for the handguards, you can just drill/punch holes in the metal and attach fabric grips.
As for riot shields...you find it cheaper/easier to buy one from a second-hand source or LE provider. Can be found as low as $80.

| Actually now that I think about it, a cheaper method for the straps would be to have multiple holes in each strap, then when you want to adjust it you can unscrew the butterfly nut and put the bolt through a tighter/looser hole. | |
