| Recently several debates have pop'ed up in various threads, since some seem to like the debate, and in general they are constructive and clean, I suggest a heavily moderated debate section were we are allowed to debate topics that are debateable (EG no religeon, personal views ect..becouse thier beliefs and theres no facts to back them) I think this would be a fun and enjoyable new section for all...there could even be monthly debate comps were the debatees each make thier statement, are allowed a rebuttel and one counter statement. (Judges could be someone thats nuetral on the topic..and there always is someone) Some topics could include -Gun control -Immagration -GM crops ect....just stuff that don't get peoples feelings hurt. So what do you guys think, debate it xD | |

| I think it wouldn't hurt, but the big thing is, this is an airsoft forum, not a debate hall
When it all comes down to it though, I vote "Aye"

| Well the debate does pop up, and while i must admitthere is some possibility of issues arising I think overall it could be fun, especialy with monthly competitions | |

| I vote nay...I come here to only talk about airsoft. Nothing more. If I wanted to participate in political debates with my internet peers I could go to a blog or a actual debate forum. Please don't bring it here though. | |

This is why I recomended a new section, this keeps the debate out of all the airsoft related areas, and those who are not interested in debate don't have to be bothered by it. It could even be a sub section of the of topic section.

| I see your theory, but unfortunately I also see it with the potential to spread flamebait to the other area's of our forum. I.E. Signatures with quotes from said section or similar item indicating a action of another member.
Signatures would then have to be cracked down on with more rules. My vote is still Nay
@ the Administration. If you are going to create such a section. Then my recommendation is to make it a private board. Each member that requests to join must be of a appropriate age, and must abide to the terms that grant the privilege.

| I like LW's idea of having it as a private member's thing. Maybe some sort of test could be devised to see if a member is responsible, etc. enough to be a member of the debate area | |

| The test is their competency with the rules. As long as the rules are followed there would be no problem. | |

| Yeah i like the private section as well, with this those who wanted to debate could, those who don't don't have to know about it..and those who don't follow the rules could be kicked pronto. I don't think age is a issue so much as maturity, honostly i think you have a great idea there LW and it wouldnt be that hard to do (if these boards are anything like the ones ive worked with)
Drummer your issue seems to be that these debates will turn into political flame wars, if we limit the topics to only those that can be argued with facts I don't think this will be a issue.
My experiance has been with invision boards and simular ones (all are free and allow for private sections) so I don't think it would be hard to setup.
This would ofcourse need to be tested but i think it will be a success.

| I'm pretty sure this website and it's administration panel are still limited to the features of the free forum hosting company it was started on. That's not much... | |

| Free forums still have the ability to host private sections. | |

| I think a private section is a great compromise...
It will hopefully keep those who have not displayed the maturity to participate in such conversations out and keep us secluded from those not wanting to be bothered by it (or those easily offended).
I suggest the section has a designated moderator that can determine appropriate topics of debate...the first one to come to mind would be Slob or Sticks (No offense to any other moderators, it's just Slob and Sticks seem to participate in such things in the past.). Hey, maybe even Zane could handle that aspect of moderation.
Overall, I'm completely for this as long as we have a system in place to weed out flamers.

| And a very strict "slap on the wrist" policy. If you do something stupid, and the mod or whoever deems it too big to let go, you're out for good unless you can prove you can be mature enough to come back | |

| I can do it, if Zane approves, I know we have had our differences. I have taken several debate MODERATOR classes, training to be moderator. I am also good at debate (mostly in person). If I am supplied with time I can fact check and all that and write a good offensive or defensive paper. | |

If I am supplied with time I can fact check and all that and write a good offensive or defensive paper. I ROFL'd...mainly because you say you took the time to attend "classes" on the topic of debate moderation. Honestly it's all pretty common sense...you don't need to be on the school's debate team or have attended classes to do it One reason I think people will lean away from you as a moderator, no offense intended, is your age...but I may be wrong is saying so. I think older forum members have a better grasp of things and can better control situations...not that you can't...but I'm just sharing my opinion on the matter. Anyway, how about we get an existing moderator or Admin involved in this discussion?

| I agree with that. I was a moderator on the old forum I used before I switched over to here, and It was hard with my age difference from the others on the forum. I wasn't taken seriously over most problems that occurred, and often had to contact an older mod to help. | |

| Mhm well lets not turn this in a wanna be a mod section...And I agree with Durkee Slob or Sticks would be exccelent since they have both partaken in debates and I can say with conffidence they wont abuse mod power in a debate :p
I think we are all agreed on a private debate section..lets leave it to the higher powers now eh?

| Yah I agree, the age thing is a big deal, even if it doesn't really matter. I hate when people tend to say or think; "Oh your 15, you can't possibly have an independent though or a world view or know how government works as good as me, I'm 35 and I'm so cool!" "All you teens are good for is typing LOL in the computer!" I had someone say that to me once, without the exaggerations, but still... I understand what you mean though, and i think your right. PS (Durkee, is that your real age on FB, am I really older than you, I'm really wondering, you look alot older than me...) | |

| I think someone who has a tendency to be neutral and reasonable should be the law on this proposed debate section. The age thing could be a problem because sometimes it is hard to restrict your own views from a decision. So......not to toot my own horn but I think I could be a good Neutral Mod for the Debate section mostly because I am always the Neutral party in most of the debates on here(that i have participated in) as well as arguements and debates in my school. | |

| We would also have to establish a system, x-amount of sentences or words for each "turn" | |

Naw...that'd just cause people to not be able to elaborate... Keep it simple.
