Oh i got another of my favorites, not really a war movie but close enough. Tropic Thunder, best war movie that is not really a war movie but is based on a double fake story from a real war.

Agreed Very funny movie. haha. My favorite is Saving Private Ryan. The Hurt Locker was up there too, but nothing compared to SPR.

My top 10:

1) Apocalypse Now Redux (there must be some reason I've seen it 63 times )
2) Jarhead
3) Platoon
4) Full Metal Jacket (Gunnery Sergeant Hartman ftw!)
5) The Hurt Locker (for all it's mess ups, I still like it)
6) Saving Private Ryan
7) We Were Soldiers
8 ) Black Hawk Down
9) No Man's Land (it's a foreign film, check it out)
10) Band of Brothers

I'm halfway done with Hamburger Hill (72 minutes is all MegaVideo will let you watch in one day) and so far I'd probably give it 3.5 out of 5. Definately worth the watch, but whether it comes close to WWS...we'll just have to see

I thought We Were Soldiers was great, but it just seemed to glammed up. Hamburger Hill is nice and gritty, just like a war movie should be, at least in my opinion.

And, for the sake of FMJ,

My SMI refers to all the larger kids as fatbodies, haha

Upon reading the book and seeing how true it stayed to the actual way it happened, I loved WWS so much more, and I feel like they portrayed each charecter very true to their actual personality.
I do understand where you're coming from though,as HH definately gives you that feeling of helplessness many soldiers felt in Vietnam.

I can't say that I've read the book for WWS, I'll have to read it
The major downfalls of Hamburger Hill are probably the music (how I hate the music, haha) and the whole liberal-ness of it all. The whole movie kind of sends out a vibe that whispers in your ear "no more war", if you understand what I mean

Oh, without a doubt, I knew that from the beginning of the movie that that was coming.
If you're a big reader as I am, you NEDD to pick up that book.

What type of warfare book is it?
(Got ALOT of unused Borders gift cards, planning a trip soon)

It's about a squad of recon Marines going into Iraq at the start of our second invasion. HBO did a series based on it kinda like how they did BoB. I've seen that and have always wanted to read the book but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I just started reading it yesterday

I'm gonna ruin one thing real quick: the series portrays the Marines as a bunch of knuckle-dragging neanderthals running about Iraq with a thirst for blood (like when they shoot the Sandeater in the head with a 40mike-mike), but in the book, it's nothing like that. So, basically, it's just like any other war movie.
