Subject: GBB-R 3-Gun Training Pattern Rifles? Sat May 08, 2010 5:19 pm
I'm getting back into competition shooting, this time in three-gun tactical... ...I talked to a local Multi-Gun Association rep and he said that many shooters train on gas blowback airsoft rifles.
He said the most common one is AGM...I believe he means the AGM M4A1.
I'm not in the mood to be dropping hundreds of dollars on .223's for practice every week...so a GBB-R may be my best option. So lets talk GBB-R's: I've been looking at the AGM M4A1 for a little while now and it seems to break the stereotype of the GBB-R... ...it appears to be consistent, doesn't chug gas, and is real-weight.
GBB's were suggested over AEG's because of a more realistic chamber rate, recoil (its there, but subdued), magazine capacity, and realistic action (functional charging handle and bolt release/catch).
I'm not going to get talked out of a GBB, as they appear to be trusted by the three-gun community...and if real-steel shooters will endorse them, thats enough to sell me.
Soo. AGM? I'd get GHK magazines and upgrade to metal hopup.
Thoughts?

Any idea on the price? If its the price I assume it will be, it'd defeat the purpose of getting a training rifle

Well if you want the benefits that come with buying an airsoft rifle vs. a real one (cheap ammunition, easy maintenance, etc) then it's worth a few hundred bucks, if you have the money.
If you saw the video it weighs just as much as a real M4 Carbine, works basically the same way, and has kick comparable to a .22, or at least that's what the guy said. Not to mention it's KWA
I don't think KWA has released information on the prices, at least not the Civilian versions. But the civvie version is to be released later this year.

NO! Don't, Durkee. The AGMs are horrible because their mags leak gas like crazy and they just can't handle any sort of stress beyond shooting targets from the bench. Your best bets are Inokatsu and WE. The ones to look for are: Inokatsu M4 SOPMOD MTW (~$800, and definitely the most realistic) WE M16A3 ($350) WE KAC PDW ($350) WE M4 (~$250, if I remember right)
Avoid the AGMs like the plague, man, they're nothing but problems. I've read a lot of things, mostly bad, coming from Asia.

I've heard exactly the same thing about WE GBB-R's...
...so idunno, I think I'll trust the positive reviews by reputable competition shooters and Outlawz players (found out 2 of them run AGM's as well).
The only problem they've spoken of was the factory hopup and magazine. After purchasing a metal hopup and using GHK magazines, the gun is right up there. At least, thats what I've heard from the sources I've spoken to.
I might call up ASGI and order me one so I can check it out in-store.

Alright, if that's what you want to do. Just thought I might throw these out there, but you may wish to look up the KJW M4A1 and the JG M4A1 too for cheap rifles. The KJW is rumored to be one of the best "cheap" GBB-Rs on the market.
