I'm new to airsoft and would appreciate any beginner tips such as rules, what type of ammo to bye (.6g,.12g,.2,ect) what manufacturers provide the best beginner weapons and gear, what are some quick and cheap upgrades for a AEG, or what optics are good for a AEG

Any help is greatly appreciated.

stay away from .6, .12 grams (do they even make .6? O_O)
.20s at the very least.
JG, CYMA, ECHO1, DBOYS, make some very good replicas for a beginner
Quick and cheap upgrade, is new bucking, a tight bore barrel, and maybe even a new hop-up.
Any optics are good. it all boils down to personal preference.
do you like have peripheral vision with iron sights. or do you want to get stuck with tunnel vision with most scopes/optics?

Well... rules will depend on where you play and who you play with. Ammo type will depend on what kind of gun you run.

Some good manufacturers for beginner guns are CYMA, JG, and Echo 1, at least in my experience. For beginner upgrades, I wouldn't suggest anything that involves opening the gearbox, unless you have a pro technician do it. You could buy a tightbore barrel if you're looking for better accuracy. Barrels are easy enough to upgrade, but be aware, if you buy a 6.01mm barrel you will definitely need to clean it after every game to prevent jams and keep top accuracy.

"Good" optics depend on your preference. Some people like magnified scopes, some people like red dots, some people like holographic sights. Do some research and see what type of optic would fit you and your weapon best. Some decent manufacturers are G&P, Element, Bravo, Leapers, King Arms.... there's a lot. Pretty much anything that is made of metal will do just fine. Just look around and see what you like.

Those guys are spot on. For gear, look at Condor. They make top notch gear and nearly everybody I know has something made by them.

As far as tips, just use common sense when you're on the field. It's helped me out countless times. Also, try to think outside the box. Think on your feet, learn to make decisions fast. Know your basic stuff, like don't bunch up, keep calm (it is a game after all), don't remove your mask on the field, move by bounds, create bases of fire, never do anything alone unless you absolutely have to, learn what's safe and what's not, and watch and listen to the guys who have been playing for awhile. They are always full of wisdom and most will even help you out. Mess with your gear. Try different ways of placing pouches until you find something you are 100% comfortable with. NEVER buy something that has no use except to look cool (I'm guilty of it). When buying something, think to yourself "when will I use this and how often will I use it?"

Bottom line, just be smart.

In my opinion, Airsoft GI (www.airsoftgi.com) is the best out there, at least in the United States. Many people like Evike (www.airsoftpost.com) too, however, I have had many problems with them.

I like airsoftgi.com a lot too.
when i order from evike. i tend to buy random crap that they have on their site (because they do indeed have random crap on their site)
but nonetheless evike is good at times.

don't trust airsplat. they are jerks. (ordered bb's from them forever ago, called them up to ask where my package was, they said go to the post office. i said why should i go to post office when i gave you my dam* address?) never ordered from them again.

Also, I have learned this from experience three times now, when you are buying a holster (when you get a sidearm), spend the extra money to get a really good one.

darn good advice. cheap holsters are a pain. I spent 60 bucks on my holster. Much better than the 10 dollar one i bought (more comfortable, don't move around, more stable, universal, etc etc etc)

I have spend more on my holster than I have on my pistol. It is honestly the most irritating that that you can do to yourself [buying a cheap holster]. Make sure that your gun is modeled closely after a real pistol, and buy a custom fit holster for a real gun (ie. Blackhawk SERPA holster) , but some universal ones (like my multicam one) are also incredible.

If you are going to go with a uni holster i recommend mil sim quality. My uni holster is from BDS tactical which makes equipment for the military. Marines take these babies to Iraq with them.

When playing, call your \"Watch your language\" hits.
But at the same time, make sure your opponent calls theirs.
As for websites, the most under-rated website of all-time, airsoftextreme.com is an amazing place. They fixed my GBB for me after I Admitted it was my fault I broke it...TWICE.

M14's right with calling hits. A thing I've learned from too many people not calling their hits: shoot 'em till they do. If you shoot him one time and he doesn't call it, give him benefit of the doubt. Shoot him again. If you see the bb hit him but he doesn't call out, aim for exposed skin, the head (if he's wearing a facemask), or the groin. Once he gets a few bursts on full auto to those area, he will figure it out. If he continues to not call his hits, report him to the field owner or a referee.

And while on the subject, plan ahead.
What I do in games, (Or well did,) was that I would play in maps with boundaries right?
So the game starts, I'd stick to a side where I wouldn't have to worry about right?
Right now, think of a rectangle, that's the map, and the lines are a boundary. Lets say I start on the bottom right angle of the rectangular map. I'm already clear on the right side because there will be no one going past the boundary of the line, just to shoot me. Understand what I mean?
So its less stressful to me that I don't have to check the right side of the map for enemies, and it could be vise versa.
Generally, the idea would work for the starting side as well for the beginning of the map. Because the only people behind me would be my allies, UNTIL a little later in the game, when people start coming closer. Theres always those hardcore adrenaline people who only care for getting killed, at the risk of getting killed themself, so they will run at you at will and shoot you in the backside.
So don't count on the side you start on for much longer.
Comprende?

Another idea. Plan ahead.
Whether it's blasting all your ammo at one spot, or many, (which I don't suggest you do), or to know where your enemy will be, and intercept them there. Generally, what I do, is either Rush, or wait to be rushed.
If you know your map very well, you'll know where everyone will be coming from, assuming you've played on it. And if not, find out where everyone will be. It won't be too hard, infact, I guarentee with you, that if you're playing with new people, the coolest places will attract them there I.E bunkers, towers, ETC.

Oh speaking of towers, great advice here.
Try to get the higher elevation.
Ever played Call of Duty and died because some cheap bastard shot you all the way on top of a roof top and you couldn't see him?
Yeah. Nuff said?

All the things I can think of on top of my head. Feel free to experiement those ideas, they are pretty basic.
