| Outlaw is basically not playing at a "regulated" field. They can tend to be private events held at a makeshift or private field and rules and such can also vary depending who happens to be hosting. Outlaw is the best IMO | |

| Outlaw airsoft is playing on non-designated fields. This is often done on BLM or privately owned land without the written or voiced consent of the landowner (illegally).
Well for now I really suggest going nameless for the time being, during your probationary period. So many teams start out, then a few weeks later are dissolved. From experience, only 1/10 teams actually make it past the first 3 months.
Get a solid member-base...then worry about the administrative work. Don't get caught up in the whole website, name, sponsor crap right at the beginning. I did that with the last team I founded and instead of playing, I found myself doing all the paperwork and PR. And that's no fun.
As far as team names go: -Generally its frowned upon to name yourself after "real" military units. -Keep it original, don't steal names from movies/tv. -Keep the "killer", "murder", "slayer" crap out of the name. It's OK to sound intimidating, but some words are frowned upon as giving a poor image of airsoft. -Have some fun with it. I've seen some teams of middle-aged men going by "Pink Prada-wearing Pandas"...just for kicks. -Do something that shows your team's unique talents/abilities.
I'll write more, but I'm going out. Maybe if I get bored I'll hop on my phone's browser.

| Whats your teams main goal? Recon, elimination, hostage rescue, counter insergancy?
How organized will you guys be? Will you have the same uniforms, replicas, gear? Or whatever people want.
do you guys have certain traits in your team?

| In my opinion you should wait until your team has more people, and then set out a "suggestion box" so anyone can input an idea. Then, the "officers" (probably you and your friend) can decide on 3 or 4 names that you both like. Then, set those 3 or 4 names out on a vote for the other team members. That's what my ex-team did. | |

| Im going to comment on the levels of noob in the above 4 comments (pre-Drummer). We aren't in the military, despite how much some of us wish we were. No airsoft team can really be "counter insurgency", "hostage rescue", or any other unrelated specialty...even though many of us think we are. - - - - - - Do not worry about matching gear. From what it sounds like, you're a couple of guys just trying to have some fun. Even if you were "serious/hardcore"...sharing uniform, patches, and general color schemes is more than enough. Having set gear gets expensive, and not every player can afford it. Trust me, I've had to leave a few different teams for that reason. The best way to recruit is to simply play. Don't look for players that stand out, look for the ones that appear to be on the same playing level as you. That way, you can all grow in the hobby together should you become a team. Formal "practices/training" are unnecessary beyond casual skirmishing. Don't be "that guy"...your team doesn't need to be running laps and doing shooting drills. Team websites, no matter how trendy...often serve no purpose. A good home forum on the other hand, is a great asset. Find a forum that you feel your team would enjoy (like airsoft allies, airsoft retreat, etc.) and invite your teammates to join. You will get very little accomplished/answered in a team forum with your 5-20 members. A forum with 1000 members on the other hand, will be a tool that your team can utilize on a moment's notice. Patches are a great way to set team apart from the freelance players on the field. A well designed patch will give a uniformity to your team even if you aren't all wearing the same camo/gear. Keep it simple. No formal rank systems in a team with less than 15 members. It will cause power struggles, undermining, and a general sense of drama. A respect system transcends the need for formal rank...gain the respect of your teammates and there will be no need to label them as subordinates. Play the game and have some fun. | |

| For the most part I agree with Durkee, at the point you guys are at now, most of this stuff is useless. After a few months, or sometimes years, if you want to make the decision as a team to play a certain role or dress a certain way then go for it. Right now its rather unnecessary.
Have fun guys!

| And if you do get patches; don't get 50 of them. Just custom order them one at a time as you need them. Sure, you'd save a couple bucks per patch IF you ever needed 50 by ordering them all at once. But why take on such a risky investment? That $170 would be better spent on comms, props, and objective markers that will actually improve your skirms. Just keep your patch image on file and tell new members where to custom order their patch. | |

| IF you really need everyone on the team to have the same uniform, you, as the leader of the team, needs to be prepared to pay or help pay for the uniforms in case someone can't afford it. I have bought 2 people on my team (even though i am not the leader) sets of chinese copy multicam, and have helped someone buy a set of genuine crye because he really wanted it. You are better off just letting people wear what they want. | |

| You see, I would say the opposite about uniforms. Matching uniforms make for a far more professional-looking team. I heard some guys at a recent OP say something that (as much as I'd like to) I really can't disagree with. Small teams are kind of pointless. At an OP, there will be a select few teams that everyone's heard of. Those are the teams with lots of active members who are committed to the hobby and the sport.
Instead of wasting time, money, heartache, and headache on a small team, you may be better off with everyone going solo (or joining a large team). There's nothing wrong with having an informal group of friends who play together. In most cases, it's more work than it's worth to be a team. The less bureaucracy the better.
A friend and I founded our team almost a year ago. We have a certain niche. But even so I can't help but question whether our team has a future. It was comprised mostly of people in the same grade from the same area. Now that our main player base has graduated high school it looks like we'll either need to disband, rethink our recruiting model, or simply fade away.

| Thats how it ends up anywho 99% of the time. They start small, go to about 5 games, and then merge with a bigger team and be their own subdivision. It works out well. | |

| Pointless post, don't do that. and to make my post less pointless: You cut the brand off of them if they quit your team. Once they join, they're never allowed to leave >:} | |
