| Hey guys, So Im getting a team of my friends together to play some airsoft on the weekends. The problem is, none play airsoft... So, basically Ive got to get 'em all into the sport. Now, Ive already picked out some good starter gear. I don think thats going to be an issue. The one thing I do need to do with them, is training. Im mostly going to be doing MilSim with them, so they're gonna need all the strategic training they can get. Any suggestions? Im thinking about even going classroom on these guys. Showing them basic menuvers and attacks. Ive really gotta whip 'em into shape. Help! | |

| Well yeah of course. But you can put them through scenarios during the game that they have to get their head around. Im trying to think of some but Im having trouble. Help. | |

| If none of them play airsoft, and you start playing drill sergeant, they will hate you. You don't need to start a training regimen that's "5 days a week 3 hours a day" stuff. Just tell them about your sport, invite them to a game with a loaner gun. It's a game, they are supposed to enjoy it -- not have the material drilled into their heads so you can have a team.
Really, if they don't even like airsoft yet, they need exposure to the game itself. Shutting them up in a "classroom" showing them your ballet moves or going in a back yard making movement formations will not get them interested. They need to play. Especially if your field works in squads and teams with leaders and followers. If they just do what their team leader tells them, they will learn much faster than telling them "If this happens you should do this and this", because they are actually experiencing it.

| Ugh, I wasn't planning on going 'Drill Sergeant'. But they do need to know some strategies. So, does anyone know any FUN ways to teach them this? | |

| Have them go through a hike in the woods and ambush them? I will try to think of more tomarrow. EDIT: Could not think of anymore.

| teach them basic hand signals, basic tactics such as splitting to flank, maybe call signs.
try to get a ranking system into the team. This doesn't mean you feild commander and their all privates. look for who has the most leadership and smartest tactics. AS Vets will have a higher rank because they have done it before.
Other then that it's hands on. Help them, if they have any sense what so ever they will catch on. Video games are good for this they go into a tactical state of mind it will carry over.

| ^yep pretty much.
But honestly 1st person shooters are the closest thing to a simulation your going to get.
I'm not saying beat CoD4/MW2 on vetran and say your ready to play airsoft. not the case at all. More "hey when I run over there I get shot and die lets find a better way."

| Closest thing to simulation? What about actually going out and playing airsoft...?!?!? Or to be extreme, Simunition but let's not get into that.
Videogames really aren't good trainers for airsoft...or for anything, besides videogames. You're not gonna need to know what button to push when you want your pistol. You aren't going to have to have a quick finger for the "melee" button. You aren't going to have to get ready to pull out your pistol in "Last Stand". You aren't going to need to stock up on throwing knives or explosive crossbow ammo.

Psssshhh speak for yourself! Drummer is spot on. The only way to get better at airsoft is to play airsoft. Next time you're at your field (or wherever you go), do some simple Force-Vs-Force and take note of your individual strengths and weaknesses. Growing in the sport takes place on an individual and team basis, so be aware of your teammate's inabilities as well as your own. Though collective "this is what you are doing wrong, this is how you fix it" is always good...sometimes the best way of getting someone to change their ways is to just let them walk themselves into crossfire or take an M203 to the face going through a doorway without a buddy. You can bet they won't do it again. As far as conventional "training" goes, aside from skirmishing many teams choose to do Force-Vs-Ghost matches. Meaning, you systematically "run through" your field/facility with no opposing force...giving you time to slow down and really practice maneuvering. If you want to make it interesting, set up some markers throughout the field and have your teammates call out the "enemy" location as they go. Semper Vigilans, Cadet Kimmell PS: This is coming from a "player" that hasn't "played" in over 2 months...so someone do feel free to slap that "STFU B1TCH YOU don't KNOW NUTHIN" on me if needed. Chairsofters....UNITE!
