| Here are several quotes throughout history, each one was said by someone in the Army.
"The deadliest weapon in the world is a MARINE and his rifle!" GEN. PERSHING, US.ARMY
"The more MARINES I have around the better I like it!" GEN. MARK CLARK, U.S. ARMY
"I can never again see a UNITED STATES MARINE without experiencing a feeling of reverence." GEN. JOHNSON, U.S. ARMY
"I have just returned from visiting the MARINES at the front, and there is not a finer fighting organization in the world!" GEN. DOUGLAS MACARTHUR, U.S. ARMY
"The safest place in Korea was right behind a platoon of MARINES. LORD, how they could fight!" MAJ. GEN. FRANK LOWE, U.S. ARMY
And one by a Korean officer
"Panic sweeps my men when they are facing the AMERICAN MARINES." CAPTURED NORTH KOREAN MAJOR
Like I said, place the Marines in the wrong job and there will be problems. They are trained to do a job and they do it. But Boy do they do it.

| plus not to mention that, without a doubt, the marines have the coolest uniform, but patton was from the army, but the f22 is sweet, but the navy has the f18's, so it is all kinda even
Marines= 1st string cannon fodder, best shots in the world Army= 2nd string cannon fodder, spray and pray Navy= Pirate fighters, plus they do have the submarines Air Force= AC130 gunship... nuf said Coast gaurd= When did they become a branch of service? Nah im jking, they are just the defenders of the american coast, and the people that pick up my sorry ass when lost at sea Special Ops= i just got killed for mentioning the most awsome people in the world (Woot go Sgt. Mcmillen!!!
But seriously, without 1 branch, the others have some problems for example, take out the Air force from any equation, that means you are left with only shorter ranged sea or land based planes, and that means youll be at a disadvantage if you are fighting a foe with more air support
Without the Marines you have no force to go in fast, hard, and loud (BTW isn't one of there motos "High speed, low drag"?)
Without the Navy, you will have to rely on the air force to suply troops who are surounded or unable to receive land based support, wich Stalingrad tought us is nearly imposible, the germans tried to suply thousands of troops by air (Hitlers orders ofcourse, he decided not to retreat earler, so he thought the Luftwaffe could airlift suplies.) Needless to say, the Germans ran out of suplies, and many surrendered Fortunately for the then Soviet Union, tthis put a major dent in German units
Without the Army, Only the marines are left to stabalize areas already conquered, and to mop up. making them weaker
Without the Coast Guard uhhh....... wait, i know this..... No i don't, never mid more drugs and pirates would be entering and raiding american coasts and ships, even though most drugs in the U.S. are either home grown, or come over from the borador to the South
Without Special ops, (Shivers), Imagine dividing by 0, or setting off a hydrogen bomb in the earths core, don't even think about it
Btw, the issues discused in this post are a joke, there were some serious parts, but it was mostly a joke, please don't rip my head off =)

| You know what army stands for right? Aint Rready to be a Marine Yet
lol Ok I'm really just joking with you guys (My dad was a marine and he says that whenever the branch debate comes up)
p51dmustang is right, each branch has it's requirements and they each need the other branches so that they can function properly.

| Ha nice one jarhead but i still stick to my guns they all need each other. I don't see many Air force para rescue guys diving to blow mines or riding in SDVs. And vice versa but i also stick to my guns that the navy is the uberest thing on 71% of the earth HOOYAH.

| I agree with most of you posting here saying that one branch without the other is useless. I mean come on, why would they establish 5 different branches, plus National Guard and the like, if they didn't need them? It's common sense.
I really don't have any bias for either branch, I have relatives affiliated with all five branches.
-My grandfather was in service with the Army from late 1945 - late 1946. Due to a health problem, he had to re-do basic training a second time. If he didn't have that problem, he might have been shipped out.
-My uncle was in the Coast Guard in the 70s in a Search and Rescue unit, inside the helicopters over the ocean. He is now a recreational pilot.
-Another uncle of mine was a pilot in the Air Force in the 80s, and is now a Boeing 747 pilot for Alaska Airlines.
-My sister's boyfriend has been going to various training camps at Camp Pendleton and is deciding whether or not he's going to enroll in OCS.
-My cousin has trained himself for the Navy, and is deciding if he'd like to enlist and eventually become a SEAL.
I have major respect for all of these family members, and I do not think higher of any one than another.

| @AFU thanks, I aim to please @DrummerBoyz95 I've had family members in every branch, as well, my friend. My grandad was a member of UDT #9 during WWII, basically the Navy SEALs. My other grandad was in firing control on a Navy Destroyer in Vietnam, and his father was a pilot with the New Mexico Air National Guard that flew in WWII and Korea, then flew for the CIA and Air America in Vietnam. One of my mom's cousins fought in Vietnam with the Army near Chu Lai, and his son just got out of the Marine Corps a couple of weeks ago after about 20 years of service and four tours in Fallujah with the I MEF. For about a year before he joined the Corps, he was in the Army. The reason I intend to join the Marine Corps, rather than the Navy, or the Army, or the Air Force, or even the Coast Guard, is because the Corps has always appealed to me more than any other service. To me, they have always been the meanest, toughest, and most well-trained service members around. And that's exactly what I want to be. My goal is to be in the MEU, the Marine Expeditionary Unit. OOHRAH! | |

| @Jarhead999 Woops, I forgot to mention my dad's stepfather (who, strangely enough, is a year younger than my dad). He was a Seabee during the Gulf War and if I'm correct, his platoon helped reconstruct a railroad in Kuwait. Aye, my view on the Marine Corps is more or less identical to yours. I'm going to do my best to try to become a Scout Sniper, that's my absolute highest goal. I also think it would be cool to work as a light armored vehicle (LAV) crewman. It seems like especially in the past few days I've really been thinking about my possible future in the military. It seems like every time I close my eyes I see myself at Camp Pendleton, in my MARPAT pants and green tee shirt, sounding off to the drill sarge...It's a great vision. | |

| I love when this discussion pops up, and it does from time to time, stirring up all kinds of emotions, thoughts and preconceived notions. Each Branch has its own special role to fill, Uncle Sam´s Missguieded Children, are an awsome fighting force in their own right, but to go comparing them to this branch or that unit is just wrong. Others have said it, and I am going to repeat it, when working in their role `` Awesome ´´, working outside, `` Horrible ´´, you wouldn´t want your local mechanic doing your induction physical would you ?? Not putting them down, but alot of the `` Hype ´´ behind the Marines is based soley on having a great PR section, in other threads here some of the myths have been hit upon, more facts have been brought into the open, and more than a few have been surprised ( Including myself ). We all have our favorites, and that is good, personaly I believe that all that have worn or are wearing the uniform deserve our respect and admiration. @AFU, quick question or answer depending how you want to look at it , Audie Murphy, Most Decorated ? most Highly Decorated ? - Quote :
- Did you know audie murphy tried to become a marine and they refused him because he was too small (Audie murphy is the most decorated soldier in American history).
Sorry he dosn´t come close, Hollywood made him famous ( not putting down his achievements or what he did ). According to the Total Army Personnel Command in Alexandria, VA, Matt Urban of Michigan was awarded 29 medals, as many as Audie Murphy, for his service in WW2.Urban's Medal of Honor recommendation was somehow lost in the shuffle, so he did not receive his MOH until the late 70s. His other medals included: 7 Purple Hearts, Legion of Merit, Croix de Guerre with a Silver Star, Silver Star with one oak leaf cluster. Perhaps if Urban received the MOH when he should have, he would be as famous as Audie Murphy. Although COL David Hackworth earned over 100 medals, he was embarrassed to wear them all. General Douglas MacArthur is considered by many to be America's most decorated soldier. He was the only soldier to be a general officer in three different wars, WWI,WWII and Korea. He was the youngest Chief of Staff and the only American General to become Field Marshal of a foreign country, the Philipines. He was nominated for 3 Medals of Honor and awarded one. His records at West Point were not broken until Pete Dawkins exceeded them in the late 50s. Fifty years of service gave him an extensive collection of recognition. The question is who is the most HIGHLY decorated, not the most decorated. The automatic answer of Audie Murphy, or even the lesser known Matt Urban really can not due justice to the question. So many lesser known but equal or greater names are out there to be explored. A few who spring to mind are Eugene Fluckey, MOH and 4 awards of the Navy Cross, Samuel Dealey, MOH and 4 awards of the Navy Cross. Everyone knows that 5 awards of this caliber is a lot more impressive than 29 medals which count purple hearts, campaign medals and good conduct medals, in other words 27 of the medals rank below the decorations for valor. Major General Smedley Butler of USMC was awarded not one, but two Congressional Medals of Honor. Actually, 19 soldiers have been awarded the medal of honor twice, and James Madison Cutts, Jr is the only person to have recieved it 3 times. Just a little food for thought.

A warning to you: pants don't have pockets. What you are thinking of are trousers! and you don't wear shirts, you wear a blouse. you don' wear a hat, either. you wear a cover. if you mess up on that, your SMI will not hesitate to throw you through a window, haha.

General Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller, winner of five Navy crosses, among numerous campaign medals, conduct medals, a silver star, a purple heart, and a Nicaraguan Cross of Valor.

| They were not forgoten, was examples of how we all have preconcieved notions or ideas about certain things, only due to being told over and over and over. Audie was a War Hero, no Doubt, brought to the lime light through films, stories and rumors, just how urban legends get started, and military history is filled with them. | |

| My SMI said that half of things you do in the Corps are because of rumors. And somebody mentioned something about "One Team, One Fight". That's what my PT shirt says, haha. | |
