You really shouldn't be saying anything about him behind his back, as it is just as bad as what you are describing here, in a different way. Excuse me if I misunderstood your post.
Yes and yes, though not the intention of my post while writing it...but I suppose it's saying something either way. Behind anyone's back? Quite the contrary, it's on a public forum and in a public thread. Wrong section? Ya, haha. Just so happened I was in this thread when my fingers started twitchin'. Brought out today because I was in an airsoft-themed forum when a problem of that kind arose, words were exchanged and members were banned...including myself, because I spoke out against a moderator's fanatical bigotry...which reminded me that such a misfortune scenario can play out on this forum. So...yaa.... Beep boop beep boop boop boop beep.

| Well it is kind of behind his back, and you even said "I wouldn't say this if he was still an active member." I would really appreciate it if you would not do that. Jarhead, and yourself are both very valuable members to this forum, and don't like the conflict that you both seem to be having. You should both get over it. No disrespect intended. That picture made me laugh | |

| Haha, you do know that it really isn't talkin' behind his back, because once he does log in eventually he probably will see this...
Anywho, I think Durkee brings this up because saying these words is on par with breathing to a Marine Corpsman (Jarhead, bieng a ROTC, 'bout to join the USMC). Although I am against using such language on an airsoft forumn (of all places), during the heat of battle...ya' gotta kinda let it out when there's a buncha guys shooting at you!

You do know he'll probably read this eventually, right? This makes it sound like you have a problem with him that you're too afraid to approach him directly with.
I should have brought it up a while ago:
We would never dare to use the "n-word" in casual conversation...and certainly not on this forum. Which leads me to question why "raghead", "sand n****r", and other demeaning terms for Muslims and Western-Asians you mean Middle-Easterners? in general was accepted as commonplace on these boards. Most of us were guilty of it at some point in a heated conversation or joking (though the line between joking and intolerant ranting is very slim).
Yes, racism is a sensitive issue. However, the people who are overly-sensitive to it IMHO are just as bad as the bigots themselves. Not everyone who makes a racist remark is a bigot. Some things can be said in good humor. There's no need to get up in arms about good-natured colloquialisms.
Now I realize it hasn't happened recently, I praise those of you who would typically include these phrases in their vocabulary for showing the restraint and courtesy, but looking back it seems stuff like that never went punished (whether it actually did or not, I do not know). I'm sure moderators did say something to most of the people...but those who continually failed to f-in' keep their mouth shut often found their inboxes crammed full of my PM's... the most common response to such PM's being something along the lines of "sorry, man...that's just my culture." or "oh no, I'm from [insert red state], that's just how we are"...though a number were kind enough to admit their wrongdoing and edit their posts.
This makes you sound like a busy-body or a wannabe mod. I can't read it any other way. Just relax. Live and let live. Laissez Faire.
Your character should not be decided by where you live or who you live with...it's not decided by your friends...it's decided by your natural knowledge within that helps you determine right from wrong, the knowledge we all have no matter where we are from or how we were raised. If you're trying to look hard, fine...go ahead and puff out your chest, we could care less...but don't be so ignorant to reality that you forget morals in the process.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, and good point, but it sounds more like a politeness issue than a moral issue to me.
Your character is created through your life experiences. You have no real control over it. You can think of people as being like computers. They are programmed by their parents, their teachers, their friends, television, various events throughout their lives, etc. You might make decisions as to what type of programming you expose yourself to, or whether you choose to accept conflicting programming, but the only reason for your choice is in response to your prior programming. You will no doubt try to argue with this point because you think you have free will. You have been programmed to think so. The programming of a person is so unpredictable; there are so many factors involved. This gives rise to the illusion of intelligence and free will.
Rednecks are programmed (purposefully) to think that shotguns are cool. You have been programmed to think that there is a universal set of "good morals" that everyone has inside them. This is simply not true. Everyone has their base animal instincts and emotions, but those are the only universal things. All else is programming. Some of it purposeful, some of it random.
Treating others as you would want to be treated is not a natural way of thinking. Children often harm each other because they haven't yet been taught this. In the same way, all other morals, values, and ethics are the result of programming. Manners are also programmed.
In short, your entire paragraph above is pretty far from reality.
I bring this up now because the forum has grown significantly...and will continue to grow. Being a largely anonymous member-base...you really don't know the ethnicity or religious views of the other parties unless they were to share it here.
Which brings me to my point: just don't f-ing use those words! Simply put. Why would you risk harming someone else on a forum that prides itself with having a friendly?
How passionate! We most certainly do have a friendly! We pride ourselves on our friendly.
Anyway, that's my nightly rant. Just thought it deserved some thought...about etiquette on the forum and in your life offline.
My prior programming is telling me to accept your points that jibe with my programming and refute those points that conflict with it.

| Thanks for taking that so well Durkee. Too many people lack the maturity and humility for that. To be honest, I was a little afraid to read this thread after making that post because I wasn't completely sure how you'd react (I'm not a very good programmer). I shouldn't have underestimated you.
And approaching him directly in this context would be through PMs rather than in a thread while he's away from the forum.

| Must admit, y'all really have been pretty mature about all this. My say is that, hey, if Jarhead logged on and saw this, he's the kinda guy that'd say straight up, "Durkee, man you're right my bad" Whether he truely believes it or not, that's just kinda how he is, very easy going and easy to get along with. I like that, a lot. Durkee, way to take Omegas post humorously, it really did make me LOL So, point has been made, moving on...whomever said they have his number, you need to text him again saying DT said he misses him, and is throwing him a welcome back party when he's back. Also, see if you can get an ETA of his nest login. Let him know we haven't forgotten him | |

| Also be sure to let him know that if he confirms the alien abduction theory, AFU wins himself a few dollars, and the acclaim of the scientific community. | |

| Lucy, I'm home! Hey guys, just wanted to drop a quick line. At school ATM, so... anyways, comp's broke, lots of stuff going on. In the past three months, I've seen a marriage, become an uncle to a two year old and seven year old niece and a twelve year old nephew, and had to change my life completely. And I was abducted by an alien grandmother I'll try to be on more often, but I can't make any promises, unfortunately. Keep the plastic flying brothers (and maybe sisters)! Oohrah! | |
