There's alot of people who can use red dots effectively at ranges, the only problem I had with y really crappy one was it was hard to get correct target identification and even harder to see if the BB actually hit the target.
If you don't mind spending some money they make magnifiers for red dot's.

Your best bet would be to match the EoTech magnifiers to the EoTech holo sights, and do the same with the Aimpoint red dots and magnifiers.
I'm going to order one of these for my spotter when I get the money:
http://ebaybanned.com/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=1667the little thing on the top is a working red dot, and with the combo of the 4X acog its pretty much the cheapest red dot/magnified scope combo out there.
This would be the other option for you:
http://ebaybanned.com/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=1340Its not quite as good in CQC as a red dot would be, but I guarantee you will get pretty good at instinctive shooting if you plan on playing alot of dynamic CQC to woodland style games.
EbayBanned is the cheapest place for optics(except for the china stores such as RSOV, but you need to pay some heavy shipping charges to shop from them). All there stuff is great for the price. You wont be let down and its free shipping!
