it looks like a good scope hope it works good for you.

yeah i'll mostly use the high magnification for spotting. I'll stick to 3-12x zoom for actually shooting, but the main reason I want this scope (other than for the high magnification for recon) is the x50mm lens, giving me a much wider field of view than my current x40mm lens.

Well Tasco ones are good and great value for money- as I'm not from the USA I can't really go price shopping on the US sites for you!

But Tasco 3-9x40 with illuminated reticule would be a great choice, and is probably within your price range.

As long as it's x40 or larger, your field of view will be good enough. Your maximum zoom for firing will be about 8x zoom, so as long as it goes up to that you should be good too.
