| We have 2 Winners !!!! TheOneNamedMike and mgunner564, Shame only one gets a Cookie. The One Named Mike.....4 mgunner564.....3 Panic324.....3 Jarhead999.....3 The One Named Mike.....3 djstasavitch.....2 kkoeber.....2 Spl Durkee.....1 sticks.13.....1 This battle, which lasted from 21 February ???? until 19 December ???? caused over an estimated 700,000 casualties (dead, wounded and missing). The battlefield was not even a square ten kilometres. From a strategic point of view there can be no justification for these atrocious losses. The battle degenerated into a matter of prestige of two nations literally for the sake of fighting...... What is the Name of this Battle, and what are the Years that this battle to place in. | Many people claim to have coined this word, for many different reasons. The Tank Museum favours the claim of Albert Stern, secretary to the Admiralty Landships Committee. Since it was agreed that the term Landship was too descriptive, alternatives were sought. Bearing in mind its appearance most suggestions were for things like water tanks, such as cistern, but they finally settled on Water Carrier. Aware of the military penchant for initials Albert Stern did not relish being secretary to the W. C. Committee so he claims to have chosen TANK instead
Or in other words.
During construction, to hide their true identity as weapons, they were designated as water carriers for the Mesopotamian campaign and referred to as "tanks" (as in "water tank").

| well, it could be that the titanic sailed from england to N.Y. city, so my guess is that the connection is the attempt to get an atomic bomb onto the titanic for transport over to england to be used on a major city in then nazi Germany. is that right? - Quote :
- The Titanic went down in 1912, there was no Nazi Germany, the first succesful test of the Atomic Bomb was on July 16, 1945, sorry WW but you missed, as a consolation prize, the next question will have something to do with July 16, 1945

| got it
Ballard had in 1982 requested funding for the project from the US Navy, but this was provided only on the then secret condition that the first priority was the then secret search for the sunken US nuclear submarines Thresher and Scorpion. Only when these had been discovered and photographed did the search for Titanic begin
thank you wikipedia, is it right

( Wiki, is not always right , )
( Hint, what were the complete conditions for thier involvment, How much time did he have to locate the Titanic, Why did the Navy agree to Ballard and not to other offers, Why was everything kept so Super FYEO ?? ) ( Hint, what were the complete conditions for thier involvment, that he would be required to keep Hush Hush about it? How much time did he have to locate the Titanic, 7 days? Why did the Navy agree to Ballard and not to other offers, he was involeved with the U.S. navy? Why was everything kept so Super FYEO they didn't want the then soviet union to know that one of their subs had gone down> (my grandfather overlooked the building of the thresher he said) - Quote :
- The Conditions for the Navy´s agreement to help Locate the Titanic, were, 1, The 2 Submarines had to be located first. 2, Ballard had to become Part of the Navy, He was sworn in and made a Naval Commander. 3, Only after the Subs were located could he Search for the Titanic, he actually had 14 days to locate the Titanic. 4, Nobody was to know of his involvment or what it was that he was looking for, he cover story was always, `` I am trying to find the Titanic ´´
The Navy agreed to Ballard because he was using a new type of under water scanning that unlike sonar, he could produce 3-d images of items on the ocean flor, and was able to film at extreme depths.
The reason why it was kept so secret was, Not only were both Subs Nuclear and the Navy wanted to make sure that the reactors were still intact befor they released the information that the subs were found, 1 of the Submarines was equiped with 2 Nuclear Torpedo´s, it was also rumored that one was sunk by the Russian military, don´t forget both Subs went down during the Cold War.
