| Oh. okay!! Well thats good. My Grandma just told me about her brother (that would make him my.....great uncle??) who was Nam. He got two purple hearts, and a Silver Star for heroically taking out a Machine Gun nest. One of his Purple hearts was for a piece of shrapnel he caught in the head. He lived and went back to finish serving with his buddies, but he never fully recovered from his wounds.....he died about three years after the war. My grandma says he just....fell over one day. My grandma says she thinks the Shrapnel must have shifted, because they never removed it from his head. | |

| Hey Bigboy have you thought about joining and going to any state collage you want becasue thats what the new GI bill does and you can get you education during the service then you have less of a chance to deploy when your getting your degree | |

| That would be wierd if you just dropped dead one day for no apparent reason but the shrapnel shifting thing does actually happen alot . | |

| A. you made a reply at 5:55 AM B. I wouldn't want to fly a FA-22
My reasons, the FA-22, is a large jet, due to its engines, getting to the war zone is no problem, manuevering is a little more tricky...Another con is the fact that missile technology is also advancing.
Trust me dude, ive played the sims.
Its a good goal and all though, like the Airforce runs some of the most exclusive schools.
You guys are going to get a chuckle, but the airforce is trying to put up some kind of a strike unit like navy SEALS.

| I have actually just recently made a big decision. I said earlier that i planned on joining the 160th S.O.A.R. (A). I still do. But I actually think I will start out in the army as Airborne Infantry......a Paratrooper. I had actually wanted to do this for a long time, for about a year and a half or two years, so it isn't really an ABRUPT decision, but I kindof pushed it out of my mind when I started redaing all of Mike Durants books. But now I think I want to join the Paratroops, and as I get older in the Army I may go to flight school from there..... I just printed off directions to my locale recruiting station, now I just have to find somebody who will take me there and not tell my parents...... | |

| LW: they already do. Its something like PJSD. They do search and destroy missions. It was created when they seperated their air comando units into a search and rescue unit and a search and destroy unit. I don't think I have the right acryonym but it's something like that. The army already has a detachment that's like the SEALs. They have a water insertion training and survival school somewhere in the new england area.
I really want to do airborn also. It just sounds fun. Halo or Hiho training sounds fun too.

| I wouldn't mind the airforce I probally am going to join up . Not every one flies planes AA most clean them . I am going to put in an application to fly as an F-28 pilot however as they train them for long periods of time and the pilots hardly ever see combat other than escort missions . The F-28 Raptor is a plane that came to my attention on the history channel's dogfights of the future and it is also a plane one of my relatives helped to design .

| History Channel's dog fights are beast...
anyways, if i did fly it would be C-130 large stuff like that. Which do however see combat, gun ships for example are used sometimes to shell strongholds or take out snipers.

| ^Not as much as you would think. In Iraq and A-stan the damage caused by a 30mm cannon (the smallest 'gun' on the gunships) is way to collateral to be used in the semi peace time that has now been achieved. Counter sniping is at a much higher demand though. Now national guard units are equipping their troops with more M14's every day(sometimes the guys actually have to buy it themselves..). I think if I had to be a flyboy(wont ever happen no good vision), I would probably want to be in a gunship too. I just want to hear one of those 30mm cannons in real life . sticks | |

| Man are you guys in for a surprise !!!! Don´t listen to your recruiters(00R), do the research yourself. Your recruiter will tell you any and everything to get you to sign on the dotted line , he or she has a quota to make, and that is every month, they miss there quota it reflects on there evaluation report, the last thing that they can have is `` Rolling a Doughnut´´, that means 0 enlistments for the quarter. Want to learn to Fly ? Join the Airborne, you can figure out where that will lead you. You like animals, then Vetranarian assistant is the job for you, spend your whole enlistment inspecting commisary and px food expiration dates. You want to be a Doctor, There is no better training than to be a Medic, yep, if you are unlucky enough to go to one of the hot spots, then you get to hold your buddies in your lap listening to them beg for your help, crying for thier mothers, because you have done all you could for them, but you still have to wait for the medivac. Don´t get me wrong guys, there is no better Honor than to have served your country, I was in the Army longer than most of you have been alive, so I do happen to know what I am talking about. You all have the internet, do the research, read between the lines, forget the Public Relations crap and then make your decision. If you do decide to Join, to get in shape, Swim, Swim, Swim, and when you get tired of Swimming, do some more !!! When you can get to the point of swimming laps for 1 hour straight, then you are in shape and Basic Training physicaly will be a breeze. You guys that want to go SpecOps, you better be able to do 2-3 hours laps and treading water ( 45 min laps 15 min treading ) if you even want to have a chance. Here is a little secret they don´t tell you at the recruiting station, you complete Basic Training, but fail your Advanced Training, they can assign and place you where they need you, take a guess where that is, Straight Leg Infantry. Just remember FIDO !!! | |
